Connor's 2-month vaccinations

Oh man! His 2-month appointment was yesterday: We got him weighed and measured right away (14 pounds, 6 ounces and 24 inches long) and then he was just smiles and giggles through the appointment and then came the vaccinations. The first was an oral one and he loved it ? must have been a good flavor J then he got 3 shots in the legs. L

Two nurses came in and they had me hold his legs down while they poked him. They each lined up a shot on either leg and counted down and poked him. Then they did the third really fast after that. He turned bright red and opened his mouth and silence. I counted down and then huge alligator tears and the screams. He looked at me like ?what the heck did you just let them do to me? Matt and I felt so bad, but he calmed down pretty quickly after that. I think Matt took it worse than I did. I only teared up a little (I cried when he got his bilirubin prick at 1 week old).

It is so heartbreaking the see and hear him cry like that!

There are a few side effects possible and he had them all: low grade fever, sleepy, and colicky. The colic showed up around 7:30 ? 8 and only lasted for 20 ? 30 minutes or so. Next time I know to give him pain meds before we go in! The Dr said we could give him pain mends before and after. One of the shots was the Tdap so I can only imagine how sore his poor little leg is!

Overall though, I'd say he was a champ!

Re: Connor's 2-month vaccinations

  • He's a great size! and 3 lbs more than DD!

DD did that same "what the heck did you just do to me?!?!" look and then screamed. She was definitely sleepy and a bit sore. It's awful!

Glad you got it behind you!

Oh my goodness, I bet he'd look like a giant next to her! Stick out tongue (I think he is in the 88% for weight and 82% for height)

  • huge :) Neither of our babies is anywhere near 14 lbs (Avery is 24+ in, and I think Quinn is close though).

The shot screaming is sort of funny. They both do a little lip quiver then AAAAAAA. Our doc is super fast and got them all in just as the scream started. I do sort of dread when they're old enough to think doc = shots though!

I know! He has just about doubled his birth weight in 2 months ... that's crazy! At least he's still on the charts :) Over the weekend I met a little boy who was 6 months old, but wearing 18 months! Sounds like your girls are long and skinny!! :)

Oh I think we had a bit of a lip quiver too, it started with the pouty lip

    holy cow!!!

Avery in particular is long and skinny - at 4 mo she was 60th for height and 12th for weight. Quinn is on the charts now (she was at least at inch below at birth) but she' was only 23rd for height and scrapping the bottom (so 3rd?) for weight. f course on the weight for length chart that makes Quinn slightly chubbier, lol.

  • I hate the vaccination thing. Poor things have no clue what's going to happen. It breaks my heart! OK, I haven't had to go through that in many years but I still remember how sad I was seeing Suri get her shots and the look she'd give me.

  • we have this appt on 1/6 and I'm so scared! I hate to see her in pain, I totally cried when they gave her the Hep B in the hospital and she howled - K held her for it and I stayed in bed.

Also, Connor is huge!!! I am guessing Ada is around 9lbs now and for sure 22/23 inches long. She is SO long. 0-3 stuff from Carter's is starting to be too short if it has feet, but she's too skinny to fill it out! It looks like she will need separates for a while, not one-piece outfits!

Ha, S was 83% for height and 17% for weight. She's like Em's babies... long & skinny. We are outgrowing the 0-3s in length but she can barely keep 0-3 pants on her waist.

I know a baby that's 3 weeks older than S that's was in 6-9 month clothes at least last month. I bet he's moving into 12 month outfits soon. He's a tank. He's outgrowing them width wise but not length wise.

I have to get a picture of the girls in pants - their fluffy diapers are really the only thing holding them up. it is hilarious. The upside of being long and skinny is (i think anyway) you get a bit more use out of sleepers since you don't fill them out widthwise and can eek out a bit more length Stick out tongue I'm starting to have an issue with onsies b/c Avery is getting long for 0-3/3mo ones but the 6 mo ones are ridiculously wide on her. They still fit into (the crazy small) gerber side snap tees in 0-3 even though they're above their belly buttons now.

  • It's so sad to see them so upset, but it sounds like he settled down quickly!

The funny thing is that he doesn't look like a chubby baby at all, he seems pretty propotionate.

As far as the onsie go, have you looked into the extenders at all?

At 80 something for both height and weight I'm sure he just looks like a big boy! :) Is your DH tall? C's cousin's baby girl is 75th for weight and 25th for height - has been since 2 mo. They measured her recently and her belly is as big as she is tall. Her aunt calls her the Square Baby. Its hilarious.

I had no idea onsie extenders existed. hmm... wonder if I need anything else from Amazon...

Yeah, definitly out of the newborn stage, but he's also hitting developmental milestones early too, so that's been a lot of fun to watch! Oh that is too funny ... square baby!! They all even out in the end (or just about) so it works :)

Yeah I am 5'-9" and was always at the top of the charts and DH is just over 6 feet and was always at the top of the charts too. Connor actually came down on the weight chart ... last time he was in the 92% for weight.

I just added a post about the onsies extenders in the other post (just ignore it). They make them in just about every major brand and may be something to look into!
