WWYD: after dinner hang out with friends

a couple HS friends are coming over, the three of us get together every year at this time because one of them lives in another state now.  Usually it's at a coffee shop, but I offered to host.  It's at 7pm and one of them will bring cookies.  Would you serve something else?  I have hot chocolate, coffee and tea options.  It's not like a formal thing, but I don't know, it seems weird not to have something else.

sorry this isn't a more exciting post!

  • I think your fine with your drink options and cookies.

  • If you wanted to, you could add something like rolls and a cheese/meat platter so they could make mini sandwiches/snacks.   But I agree with kari, and because of the time you don't need to add more.

  • Sounds like you've got everything covered - I mean, everyone will have already eaten dinner, and if you usually meet at a coffeeshop the only thing you're missing is the jazz music and folks in green aprons kicking you out at 10 :)

If you want to do something more than "I've got cocoa, tea, and coffee", you could make like a little diy hot chocolate bar thing - a couple little bowls of mini marshmallows, pirouettes, candy canes, can of whipped cream, sprinkles etc. so everyone could go all out with their cocoa. But if it's only the three of you, that might seem like a little more production than necessary.

This is the cutest idea!! I may need to steal it next time we have people over.

Amanda - I think you're covered with what you're described. I tend to make way more food than necessary, and I would probably add a fruit/cheese plate or something similar, but in this case that would be entirely optional. Have fun!

  • I love the hot chocolate bar idea, mostly because I seriously love hot chocolate!  I think I'll do the cheese and crackers, that's a good snack idea and if there's some left over, I won't be too upset ;)
  • Agreed, because of the time you don't NEED to have anything else, but if you feel like you should, then I would ditto having an anti-pasti type platter with cheeses, meats, olives, etc. You could also offer sparkling wine to feel festive?

  • i know i'm way late on this...but to me, 7pm isn't after-dinner (even though with my job, i eat dinner at 4 or 5)....if i had plans with friends at 7pm, i'd expect a meal.........whether we go out, dine in, or anything...7pm to me is meal time.
