Looking for 30th bday ideas for DH

I want to do something special for DH's 30th birthday in February. Originally I had thought about throwing him a party, but then I thought that a weekend trip somewhere might be more fun. His birthday is the Sunday before President's day, so we'll both have a three day weekend. My first thought was to drive down to CT to go to Foxwoods for 1-2 nights, but the Saturday night alone is $400. Crazy. Then I thought of Vegas and while the hotel prices are decent, the flight is long and expensive. Any other ideas?

Re: Looking for 30th bday ideas for DH

  • We went to Charleston, SC for DH's 30th birthday last February. It was fun.

Pick a random city, and just go! :)

  • That'll be an expensive weekend b/c of President's day and kids being out of school.

How about NYC :)  You can definitely stay here for less than $400/night!

Yeah, I know it'll be more expensive, but I just can't get over the prices for Foxwoods. I'm actually considering NYC too. :)

  • Beth - my friends and I went to Mohegan for a night and stayed at a Hyatt Place hotel that was a 5 min drive from the casinos and they have a free shuttle that goes back and forth every 30 min.  It was only like $150 for a night, if that.

I just looked at that one and because it's a holiday weekend, it's like $300/night. Bummer. Looks like I'm either going to have to pick another weekend, or just do the party as I had originally planned.

  • Despite it being "President's Day" weekend - DC is not particularly filled with tourists this time of year.  There are some nice and swanky hotels in the $150 range for that weekend.  Not sure about flights/trains because I don't remember where in Mass you are.

  • I surprised DH with a trip to Denver for his 30th last spring. I started looking at direct flights from our city, and then just picked the one that was cheapest. I booked a really nice hotel downtown that was expensive, then for the second place we stayed I booked a hotel off groupon and it was really affordable and nice! I'd just do some research and see where the deals are.

Agreed! Bethany, you and DH should totally come to DC! We could have a GTG again:)

  • I'm also planning DH's 30th and am at a loss of what to do. We were going to go to Gatlingburg for Z's birthday, but then when looking for a cabin realized it was Valentine's Day weekend and that's apparently peak-lock-yourself-away weekend. So maybe we will do that for DH's.

Good luck, let us know what you decide and how it goes over!
