I'm heartbroken

My awesome neighbors just posted a pic on FB... they're officially moved into their new house.

Because their loser kids had to move their loser azzes into their house because "we owe the IRS a shytton of money, but what's wrong with my 8 year old needing an iPad for Christmas?!"  So they're actually MOVING to have enough room for them, their loser kids and their spoiled grandkids (they all had kids early--- my neighbors are in their mid-to-late 40s).  I hate their kids so hard right now.  I'm going to miss them so much.

They were the kind of neighbors where we basically had free reign over each other's houses.  I can't tell you how many nights we would  just make one dinner for the four of us and sit on the porch talking til one am on a weeknight.  They were so awesome.  It was like our own little compound.  I'm sad.

Re: I'm heartbroken

  • I still think back to when H first moved into our house and I was all annoyed at him for making friends with the neighbors because I have feeling obligated to say hi and make small talk, etc.  And they ended up being some of our best friends.  The person who's moving into their house is a 27 year old with her kid and her "baby daddy" (that's what she referred to him as) who just got out of jail.

H and I have always wanted to move back to our hometown.  Our neighbors were the major reason I was hesitant.  I guess we can start looking again.

  • You can move next door to me :)

I'm a Connecticut girl.. through and through.  I couldn't survive in Jersey just like Jersey girls couldn't survive in Connecticut.

  • I could survive anywhere!

  • Sad stupid neighbor-stealing loser kids!

    I hate them so hard.

Seriously though... you are 28 years old.  Grow up and learn to live on your own.  And if you DO need pretty significant help from mommy and daddy... maybe be a little less open about the fact that you're buying your 8 year old iPads and buying yourself Kindles and new iPhones.

  • It really sickens me to see things like that. How disrespectful to their parents, too, to know that they are sacrificing so much to help their kids while they buy excessive and unnecessary gifts. I can pay for all my bills, save money, and I still don't have an iPad. I seriously doubt any 8 year old needs one.

And I know it's also my neighbor's fault because they enable them to be like this.

The ONLY reason I own a Kindle is because it was a gift.  Because *GASP*, I'm responsible for paying for my life.  It's AMAZING how little spending money you have once you're responsible for keeping a roof over your own head, feeding yourself, etc.

And I love how now they're teaching their kids "hey, if you don't have the money... it's okay- you'll get whatever gadget everyone wants now anyway!  Because we can just make sure grandma and grandpa pay to raise my kids!"

How much do you want to bet this bites them in the azz when their kids are their age, and they become the grandparents expected to support their kids? If they're teaching an 8 year old that living outside their means is ok because the tab will get picked up by someone else, I can easily forsee that 8 year pulling the same crap in 20 years as they are doing now.

ETA: Sorry, that sentence made very little sense.

Exxxxxactly.  As it is, the family is rife with unbroken cycles.  My neighbor got pregnant when she was 17... had her daughter.  That daughter got pregnant at 16... then her other daughter got pregnant at 16.  But the second one is at least self-sufficient.  The oldest one is the one currently mooching off of them (oh... and talking about having ANOTHER kid... when they very obviously can't afford the two they currently have without having to be subsidized by mommy and daddy).

Ughhh, I know this is probably a flameable opinion, but I always feel frustrated when I see people planning to have yet another kid, when they can't support themselves and the kid/s they already do have independently. H knows a woman he went to highschool with that has never worked, has two kids (different baby daddies), and is now planning to have another child, despite the fact that all of her money comes from government assistance and her family. It shouldn't be anyone else's job to pay for your kids, FFS.

(Before I get flamed too hard, I absolutely have no problem with people needing assistance when they fall on hard times. I am specifically talking about having another child when you already know that you can't provide for it).
