What's your outlet?

I need an outlet. Just something I can do to get the daily ick and negativity out of my body.

I try to go to the gym every day but it is sooo not happening. I go for a few days in a row then my knee hurts and I have to stop for a few days and have trouble getting motivated to go back. Lather, rinse, repeat. I have several significant knee injuries so I'm afraid to push it too hard in that arena. I feel a hundred times better when I go to the gym so that sucks.

I don't really have any hobbies. That's kind of sad. I would love to take a cooking class to get away from things once a week but I don't know where to find one. Oddly enough the junior college here doesn't seem to have cooking classes.

Re: What's your outlet?

  • Swimming and Knitting.  Sometimes reading.  All of these let me get away.

My favorite "me" thing to do is to take a bubble bath with a glass of wine and a book.

  • I read or take a walk while listening to an audiobook. I also like to do puzzles

  • a hot bath and a gossip magazine is my "go to".  I also like to swim laps (one of the only places where I don't have to listen to anyone or talk to anyone for that matter, since I do a lot of listening at my job).
no identifiable siggy pictures anymore, thanks a lot stupid nest!
  • I read and drink

I don't remember what area you live in - but here is a local Arvada restaurant that does them a few times a month. they also have Tuesday wine nights.

  • When I am really wound tight, I take the dog for a walk, often in the dark. Just breathing in the fresh air and the rhythm of my steps makes me feel better.

I also quilt and read, and in the summer, I enjoy digging and weeding in the yard(though I don't do it as much as I should). Those things don't "de-stress" me instantly like a walk, but they are mine, and it is me time that I look forward to.

  • If you're looking for cooking or other classes, you can check out Cook Street, although they are definitely more expensive than other cooking classes in the area.  Also, Colorado Free University also offers cooking and other culinary-related classes and they are much more affordable.   And it's been about 8 years, but I used to take some wine-tasting classes for work through the Aurora Parks and Recreation department.  They were great and were led by Will, the main wine buyer at Chamber Liquors, so he definitely knew his stuff.  The classes were really laid back and not pretentious at all and I learned a lot.  I think they also offered cooking classes.

  • Why not go to a local pool and swim for 30 min or so? You can work out, save your knees, and not have to pay for a gym membership.

In the summer, I like to just lay outside in the grass and nap. In the winter, I still haven't figured it out- haha!

  • I go to a weekday bible study with other women and honestly that is the best outlet I have found. It replaces the ick with something much, much better rather than just expelling if for a while.

  • I read. Losing myself in a book is the easiest way to forget about the stuff that's bugging me.
  • Yoga, riding, going to the gym, reading, sleeping, occasionally sitting on the floor of the shower with the water on and crying it out when things boil over.  I'm considering taking up tae kwon do with N so that I can kick things.
  • Reading, running, and eating. Sadly, the running is hard for me this time of year with the short daylight. It's a constant struggle to not eat my way through my emotions.

  • Quilting and sewing. They always help me feel a 100 times more on the straight and narrow.

  • I work out a couple days a week, even if I just walk on the treadmill and stretch these days I feel better.  And yoga used to be a big one for me but I don't do it as often as I would like since having DD.
  • Wine and petting my cat.  My screen name is accurate.  ;)
  • baking,long naps and shopping.

  • Yoga. I highly suggest trying it out. If the knees are keeping you from doing cardio incorporate yoga into your routine then maybe you can save them while staying on your goal to workout.
