Re: Bob's Furniture quality?

  • I don't have personal experience but from what I've seen in the stores and reviews I've heard, I think it's generally one of those you get what you pay for types of experiences. I also hate shopping there because the sales people follow you around like vultures. One will latch on to you as soon as you walk into the store and even if you tell them you're just browsing they will literally follow you around lest someone else snatch up their commission.

I much prefer Jordan's Furniture. You can get some great deals at the Collosal Clearance Center inside the Avon store.

Ha! Sounds like the furniture joints at our old place!

We're 10 minutes from the Avon store, so maybe we'll stick to that. We lost out on a couple of items in the clearance due to waiting too long, but it's so close I'm sure we'll find something the next go-round.

All of this. When we were looking to buy a couch, we made the mistake of going to Bob's. Even though we repeated at least 5 times that we were not buying that day, the guy would not stop following us. It was maddening.  And the quality isn't that great. I got a mattress set there, and it was fine, but my husband's was a piece of crap that he paid too much for and it only lasted 2 years.

And definitely check out the clearance center in Avon. That store has both the clearance center, (where you buy what's on the floor), but they also have the outlet too, which I think is where they send stuff once they only have limited quantities left.  We've always had good luck there.

  • I am pretty sure our sectional is from Bob's. Going on 6 years, 1 dog, 1 kid, and 10 foster dogs later, it's still in good shape, all things considered. That may be because it's microfiber though.

  • We have a tv stand, coffee table, and bookcase from them. They are good, but they do dent/scratch really easily. But that's generally true for most wood. We don't have any cloth pieces but I've heard the stitching comes out easily.

I also think this is true (but we also experienced this at Bernie & Phils - were looking at the sectionals, then went downstairs to look at something else and he guy followed us down there):

  • I agree that you get what you pay for. The coffee/endtables we got fell apart aftet 2 years. We had a terrible experience with their delivery. I would try Jordan's or Boston Interiors. I may be biased, because Jordan's donates a lot to youth in foster care who I work with.

  • My friend furnished her entire apartment from Bob's when she split from her bf a couple years ago, and she loves all of her furniture. I wouldn't rule it out IMO. My mother has also had a bob-o-pedic for at least 5 years and it is soooooo freaking comfortable.

We have never purchased anything there but we recently bought a living room set from the Jordan's outlet and a dining table from regular Jordan's and we have major complaints with both. We are really unhappy with both, and neither are more than 8 or so months old.

After the move, we will probably shop Cardis for our new living room set(s).

ETA: When I said we are unhappy with our Jordan's stuff, I do mean the quality.

The couch has velcro on the bottom to keep the cushion in place and the velco literally tore off the bottom of the cushions so every single time you sit down, the cushion slides out from under you and the underside of the cushions have big holes now.

The dining table has no finish on top so if you put a drink on it even momentarily without a coaster, it leaves a permanent water mark. The thing is a mess. I don't think it's too much to ask that you can put a glass of water on your dining table during dinner without destroying the table. GRR!!

  • we typically stick to Jordan's, but we ended up with a reclining sectional from Bob's for our den and that thing is awesome.  I have heard horrible things about customer service but luckily I haven't had to deal with them.. I can't speak for the quality (which is my main concern with their furniture) because we've only had the couch for a couple of months.

  • BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD

I had the WORST experience with Bob's. We got new living room furniture just before DD was born. We went in, ordered what we wanted and scheduled delivery for the Saturday before Thanksgiving. So, the truck came and all they had was the mattress for the sleeper sofa--no Sofa, no Loveseat. JUST the craptacular mini-mattress. I called customer service and after TWO HOURS, they finally said, "Oh, those items are on back order and won't be available until mid December." WTF?!?!? When we ordered them we were told they were "in stock, ready for delivery." At this point, I had given away my old furniture and had a giant empty living room with no where to sit. But "We're sorry, there's nothing we can do."

Check out the Better Business Bureau, they have a REALLY bad rating.

  • We bought our bedroom set from bobs. I am pretty happy with the bob-o-pedic. The nightstands have lots of scratches. I have no complaints about the bureaus & bed frame.
I DO have issue with their Goof Proof extended warranty though. The bottom of our bed frame got damaged almost immediately from our dog. I called to have it repaired, but because I mentioned that I 'thought' the dog did it, they wouldn't fix it. The customer service rep asked me when exactly the damage occurred. I said I didn't know, so they wouldn't fix it. I told her to say it happened that day. She replied that since I already told her I didn't know, she couldn't help me. I got frustrated with the run around, gave up & fixed it myself.

  • Have you heard the new Bob's commercials on the radio lately?  They crack me up as they basically go something like this:

"Hey, we sell so much stuff because we're the cheapest game around!  Like, 650,000 deliveries every year!  But when you're this successful and so busy, mistakes are bound to happen.  All I can do is try my best to fix the problems, but like I said, when you're so popular, what can you do?"

It's the most ridiculous piece of "advertising" I've ever heard.
