Kaiser questions - who to call?

DH and I are thinking that we'll be switching to Kaiser at open enrollment time (not until May). However, with DH's arthritis and stuff, we really need to talk to someone to find out which specialists he would need to see, what locations he'd be going to, what the process is for them covering his current medications etc.  My HR person knows nothing about any of this. I think we need to talk to someone at Kaiser, but I have no idea who. Any thoughts of where I should start?  TIA!

ETA: I found some documents online that were very helpful (covered medications, etc).  I'd still like to talk to an actual person though. :)

Re: Kaiser questions - who to call?

  • your (or DH's) employer should have a dedicated Kaiser representative that you can refer you to.  There is one assigned to every company just for this reason (plus to handle all the renewal stuff).  or - if the company currently has Kaiser ask your HR/benefits rep for your group number and they should have a Kaiser customer service number you can call.

  • The thing is, I've contacted my HR person a few times about this. She's pretty unresponsive and doesn't seem to know anything about Kaiser other than how to sign me up. Sad I'll get the group number and try to find out more from there. Thanks for the tips!

  • sorry - that is really poor!!   let me email our rep tomorrow and ask what you should do in that case.

  • This is from my company's Kaiser Rep:

Your friend can call our Member Services any time.  Local: 303-338-3800 or 1-800-632-9700.  She should be able to give them the name of the company and they should be able to answer any questions about benefits, transition of care, selecting physicians, etc.    If she has problems that way, let me know and I'll help if you just tell me who she works for.

  • You are a lifesaver! Thank you so much! We'll give them a call. I'm starting to feel better about this. I've always been fine with going back on Kaiser myself, but was really worried about dh losing the doctors he's been going to for so long. But it looks like they cover his meds, even the new one his current doctor wants to start trying, and hopefully we can get our other questions answered soon. Thank you again. :)

  • oh good!  glad I could help.  I'm not on Kaiser - but from what I understand they are a lot better about specialists, etc.. than they were even 5 years ago.
