Yes, I'm keeping my cats.
Yes, all 3 of them.
The next person that asks me when I'm giving my cats away before the baby comes is going to get punched in the nose.
I'm not putting a screen door on the baby's bedroom and I'm not putting a mesh tent over the crib.
The cats are NOT going to smother the baby and they are not going to "suck the milk right out of her mouth".
I'm really annoyed by these comments. No, we don't plan to let them sleep in the crib with her - that's why the bedroom has a door and we will have a baby monitor.

Exactly!! It infuriates me. I'm just really moody today (I'm having bad insomnia these days and it makes me cranky when I don't sleep much), but in the last week alone, I've had at least 5 people say things like this to me.
I want to respond with comments about giving away other family members when they have a new baby. Would you give away your 2 year old when the new baby comes? No? Well, then why should I give away my kitty babies?

ugh. people.
we never had people ask if we were getting rid of Sox, but plenty of them asked if I was worried about him getting in the crib or anything.
We don't even shut A's bedroom door (I don't want to because I'm afraid to stifle airflow). 1) Sox can't jump high enough to get in the crib, 2) he only goes in her room when I go in there to feed her at night, and 3) he's scared of her crying and leaves the room as soon as she starts getting too loud
Say it with me now:
People are douche canoes.

Ugh, that was SOOOOO aggravating during pregnancy!!! My grandmother was the worst. My cat is not a snuggler and would never just go in and "smother" the baby. I feel ya.
ETA: The screen door is just welcoming them to climb it and a net over the crib is just asking for them to explore more. Dewey gets curious but once she makes noises he runs off. He likes to sniff her when she's sleeping though but he sniffs her head and runs off.
Thank you!!
I have actually had 2 people on separate occasions say those exact words to me.
WTF is right.
I posted a picture on FB the other day of one of my cats in the crib (which was super cute, btw). I went along with people so as not to cause trouble/drama, but I would never do those things. UGH.
We've had crying babies at our house before. My cats HIDE. I seriously doubt they will go anywhere near her for a long time.

I just went back and read those comments. I had to restrain myself from being snarky to your friends. I didn't realize cats turned in to such mean animals once babies come in to the home - lol!

I've heard that old wive's tale about the cat smothering babies by sucking milk out of their mouth. I mean it's OBVIOUSLY ridiculous but I have heard it before, I just wonder where these crazy things start.
I'm glad you're not getting rid of your kitties! Of course they're part of your family!

I have never heard any of those "concerns." The only one I have heard, and is legit is about pregnant ladies not scooping cat litter.
I agree with whomever made the comment about not getting rid of real children just b/c a baby is coming, so why get rid of a cat.
Blog
I read them too. The nerve of some people.
I just can't believe that people would get rid of a pet just because they had a baby. My animals were my babies 1st. We lost Brownie this year to old age but she never once took a swipe or did anything to hurt Maddy and Maddy wasn't always gentle with our kitty. The ONLY way I would consider re-homing an animal after a child would be if my child had a severe allergy to pet dander and we just couldn't keep the animal.
Leelou and Brownie had never been around kids much at all before Maddy and they both got a little curious at 1st but once she cried they were like ok get me away from this thing. Your cats will adjust and like I said probably not want anything to Hadley's space once she is here.
