Baptism/Christening ?s

So apparently its time H and I start considering places to have a luncheon at after As baptism -date/time to be determined. We'd like to stay around Pearl River/Nanuet area if we can, it will be about 30-35 people with kids ranging in age from 7 to newborn. Recommend away!

If you had your child baptized did you need to attend a class?

Re: Baptism/Christening ?s

  • we have done a bunch of parties (showers, ect) at the Elks in Pearl River and loved it. Their food is not that bad and is affordable. We did A's at the firehouse my family volunteers in (members only) and had the food catered by Munnos (Pearl River). It was great but we had over 90+ people. we put on pandora radio had an open space for kids to play and had the football games on the screen.

we baptized A at St. John's in Piermont and only had to meet with the priest to set a date. it was fairly easy for us because we were married at that church, the godparents are members of the church, and we attend mass there every saturday. we didnt really have to answer the "why" questions. when we were there they had us watch a 20 minute video on baptisms.

  • A was Baptized at St. Catherine's in Blauvelt. All we had to do was meet with the Priest and watch a 20 minute video. We did it all at once.

We also had her party at a local Firehouse that's open to members only, so that's of no help to you. we made trays of food ourselves.

You could look into using the Blauvelt Firehouse and getting food from Munno's. They rent to non-members and have a beautiful, huge room.

You could also look into Aqua Terra, 76 House, Mia Cucina, Confetti's, Slattery's.

  • We had to go to a "class" on a Tuesday night but all it really was, was the Priest going over what was going to happen that day. It took abut an hr and was no big deal.

  • Appletini- do you have to be an elks club member? We've been there a few times before but always for outdoor parties. But the people were also always members. Can they sponsor you - like say I know so and so and they are upstanding citizens/ aren't going to wreck the place?

  • We did have to take the class... and as per reccommendations, we had DD's baptism in haverstraw and we had a reception at the American Legion.  DH's uncle belongs so, it worked-and they did have a bar!  equipped with a bartender!  lol
  • Went to a wedding here and it was very nice!
  • Our class was after a 12o'clock mass, for 30 minutes,we get to skip it this time since we did it already.

We used our house because it was summer for J's and this time using a firehouse but were hooked up with free usage due to a friend.

Also ask about the church fee for baptism or "donation" as they call it.  Some are $50 some like ours are "$150 is highly suggested"

Haha don't feel bad! We just baptized the kiddies in November. CJ was 14 months and Ry had just turned 4.
