I only posted about this on FB, but we found a five week old kitten about 10 days ago at the book store. He had a broken tail, his eyes were infected, and he was generally scruffy looking. We took him to the vet, where he's been since then. We visited him almost every day and the vet said he thought he'd be able to come home in a couple of days. He was eating and drinking well, he just had some trouble with his bladder/bowels that they though antibiotics would take care of.
I know it hasn't been long, but I've grown really attached to him and was so excited about bringing him home. DH and DD went to visit him tonight and I couldn't go. DH just called and said he's taken a bad turn and he's dehydrated and barely able to move and they think they're going to have to put him down tonight because he's in pain. I can't believe how torn up I am, but I am really distraught that I'm never going to get to see his little face and scratch under his little chin one more time or take him home and love him and give him a nice comfortable life. I really wish I could say goodbye, but I don't want to prolong his misery to satisfy my own selfishness. ![]()
Re: They don't think our kitty is going to make it :-(
This, exactly. And
My silly Lily is almost 4.
Aly said it perfectly... I'm so sorry!
Ditto! He is lucky to have met you guys!
I agree with Aly and PPs. I'm sorry
He was just the sweetest little kitten ever. I feel like my heart can't take having a pet if this is how I feel after 10 days.
My sister made a really awful comment on FB when I posted after we found him and I dread having her ask me how the cat is because, I swear, if she says something mean-spirited I just don't know if I'll be able to forgive her. He didn't deserve to have his life be so short and painful.
I agree with everything above. It was sweet of you to reach out and help him. Try to look at the bright side, at least his last few days he was being treated the way that he should.
I have never had any luck taking in strays. They always end up having to be put down, I feel for you. It is heartbreaking not being able to save an animal.
Married Bio
This and what Aly said. All three of our furbabies are rescues. They aren't the only ones we have taken in. Some simply did not make it and others found loving homes with other families. I know it is hard but who knows, maybe the next rescue will be the next addition to the family. Keep your chin up because what you did was right.
