f/u to cross-eyes

DH took  the munchkin to the pediatrician on Friday. Ped walked in and said "good thing you came, that's concerning". He referred us to a pediatric opthamologist so I called to schedule an appt. I was told by Mass Eye & Ear/ Children's Hospital that it's not urgent at 3 months and I am more than welcome to schedule an appt (booking at least 2 months out) or I can wait til she's 6 months and if it's still an issue, she'll be seen urgently within two weeks.

We didn't love that answer but have talked to several professionals and it seems to be normal. The daycare provider does some tracking exercises with her to help out in the meantime and we'll wait to see what happens!

  • Well, that's a good response from the ped!  Not great from the opthamologist, but oh well...

That's great that your DCP will also work with you!

I agree. Hopefully it will still work itself out out, but at least you have started the process in case it doesn't.

  • Hmm are there any regular ophthalmologists that also see babies? We would have had to wait a while also, if not for mine also seeing kids. Her ped wasn't aware so he just always referred to peds ophthalmologists. Granted, had we waited it would have fixed itself, but DD's wasn't as noticeable. The Ped didn't even really see anything, just me :) It's great that the DCP will work with you though!

My mom ran into her opthamologist on Saturday and he looked at pictures and said we should wait til 6 months too. We have caught her several times looking straight ahead so we know she can do it at least once in a while!

Yeah, I think DD was around 6 months or later so that may have been why he saw her. I've also heard that if you see them doing it more when they are tired, it's not as big of a concern. Just an FYI. Here's to her growing out of it!

  • Meg- the opthamologist mentioned that when people have a large bridge between their eyes (like S & C), it appears that they are crossed when they really aren't (something to do with the eyelid too). He felt like that was the case in one picture and then saw another of S and said that it wasn't the case with her.
  • Exactly! Then my worry went to "is my kid going to look funny with a wide bridge?" As C's face has developed and she got older I can't tell anymore so I definitely think it was more of an eye trick because of the anatomy. It's definitly worrisome though when you see something wrong and want to KNOW it will be alright.  We actually have a follow up coming soon but I don't even worry anymore. Will be interesting though. It's neat how they can check their vision etc with non-verbal cues etc
  • I would be frustrated as hell to wait, even if it is normal.  You are a patient lady. :)

(by the way, cross-eyed or not, she sure is cute as a button!  I love the new pics on FB. ) :)

I think for some reason pregnancy & motherhood has helped me find an inner calm (or being so familiar with the medical field). I don't want to stress her out either so I've taken an attitude to not worry unless I have reason to worry (easy at this point I guess).

And thanks, she, like all our nestie babies, are pretty darn cute!
