Re: Critique my NYE menu
Just some ideas:
Pita and hummus would be a good, light option for an appetizer and hummus also works as a healthy veggie dip
Bruchetta might appear classier and healthier than chips and salsa but it also takes more time to prepare.
I'd try to work in a "fresh" dessert to balance out all the chocolate. Perhaps something fruit based like lemon bars.
I'd also add a beer option for the guys.
These are just some suggestions. You know your friends best. Part of my focus on healthier stuff is just because I've been stuffing myself with crap lately and I would presume your guests have too.
i second all of steph&j's suggestions. hummus is also a good, healthy protein for those who don't want to eat things that are a bit greasier.
my only other concern is that your apps might not be "heavy" enough on a holiday that is boozy. pita bread or baguette might help with that or maybe a cold pasta salad that you can make the day before?
have fun!
I think it sounds yummy. If you want additional suggestions to the great ones above, shrimp is really popular for NYE parties. A really simple app with it is to spear softened cream cheese on the bottom of small dish and then put a layer of cocktail sauce on top. Top with a little can of tiny shrimp (you find them by the tuna) and serve with crackers. You can make it ahead, but it only takes about 2 minutes to throw together.
Also, you could throw in some frozen meatballs with the little hotdogs to bump up the protein.
It all sounds really good though.
Thanks ladies! Two more people RSVP'd yes last night so we're up to 12 now.
No one in our crowd really drinks beer so we'll forgo that. However, I will pick up more soda and champagne.
I did add a pesto bruschetta, a taco dip (DH's request), hummus, and a friend is bringing meatballs. I also switched out the chocolate chip cookies for Lemon Poppy cake.
Really excited but a bit overwhelmed! I have to get almost everything done tonight! Tomorrow is our anniversary and we are staying overnight downtown and Saturday afternoon we have a close family friends 2 year old's bday party.
