And it was written by a Mormon, so they don't even get it on. Lame. I'm not reading a teeny vampire book without some vampire sex.
I hear it's rather paternalistic.
There isn't even vampire sex? Figures. I just read that the author's favorite book is the Book of Mormon.

I heard that it was poorly written but has a good storyline. A friend is starting up a YA lit book club (don't laugh!) and we might read it there, but otherwise I'm not getting caught up in the hype.
Apparently the movie already made a profit from pre-sales of tickets alone.
I checked the first one out of the library to see what all the fuss was about, and I only read the first 40 pages of it. Absofuckinglutely awful. Just terrible. The story is told from the POV of a high school girl, but unfortunately, it reads like it was written by a high school girl.
This reminds me why I need to write my novel. If that woman can make millions writing crap like that, then surely I can sell a book or three.
All my friends were raving about it, so I actually picked up the first book this week, figuring some alone time in my hotel room would give me time to read.
I confess: I am actually hooked! I stayed up until 1:30 last night.
No, it's not the best writing, but you know how sometimes you need a little fluff for your brain? This is good fluff.
However, I am now pissed there will be no vampire sex to look forward to, lol. Although figuring as how the main characters are teenagers, I should have figured that (Well, this is 2008, let me not get ahead of myself....)
I actually just picked this up yesterday at B&N because of all the hype over on P&E.
Ditto whoever said the writing was TERRIBLE. But also ditto whoever said it was like crack. Started reading it after a late dinner last night, and somehow got through almost 300 pages of it.
If you're in the mood for fluff, it's not the worst thing you could pick up, though, as bunny mentioned, I'm horribly disappointed that there's no vampy sex to look forward to... :: le sigh::
Ditto every last word, even the part about finally buying it at B&N last night! I went to the one in Union Square and I was reading the thing nonstop all the way home on the train.
If anyone wants to, I am on paperbackswap and would be willing to give up my copy as soon as I finish.
Ok triple ditto the fluff - it's good brain candy; the writing is terrible and gets really, really bad in book two, a little bit better in book three and wtf? in book four. But again - the story idea was pretty good, she just needed better editors.
SPOILER ALERT - there's really lame sex scenes in book four - something about broken headboards is all I can remember.
I can't believe I am saying this but I think in this situation of novel turned movie, the movie will probably be better!

See, I love fluffy brain candy, but the writing can't get in the way. For me, the writing in Twilight got in the way. I'm currently reading My Horizontal Life by Chelsea Handler. It's total fluff, but she's a god writer, too. To each her own.
I adore Chelsea Handler. She is hilariously funny.
That's so funny; I read MHL a few months back and it just made me so sad at the end. Ok, confession time: I always wanted to write a book just like that one. I had a really wild streak that lasted from 16-26, and I thought it might be fun to write a memoir in the vein of "here are funny stories about how I used to be such a slut."
But actually reading a book like that? So disheartening. And not because I'm not a prude. But I can't even watch her show anymore.
It's crack, I say. Crack!
Finished book 1 last night - 2 nights of reading after dinner and I'm done. And as horrible as the writing was, I'm honestly contemplating going to get book 2. I need help. Do you think they offer rehab for Twilight readers?
