booked an American flight for June....should we change it?
We just booked a vacation last night with some friends and our flight is an American flight. One of the other guys is stressing out this morning that we booked American and thinks we need to change our flights to another airline.
Beside not knowing if this is possible, do we need to worry about this? Thanks!

bankruptcy issues....I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that!
I have been googling and it seems like it will be fine.
That's exactly what he was saying--the bankruptcy stuff in the news lately. We're not going to change, and I'll tell him this info and he can make his decision. Thanks!
Yeah, cancelling/changing because of that sounds paranoid and would be a total waste of money imho.
He wanted me to call the place we booked it through and I can get out of it with no charge right now (through tonight, since we just booked it last night). We can take a Continental flight that gets us into our destination an hour earlier and leaves two hours earlier for $60 less and not be on American. Now I have to decide if that's worth it!
I really don't mind sticking with our flights, but they went ahead and cancelled theirs to take the other one.
Several airlines have declared bankruptcy and continued to operate. I would leave as is. If you switch to Continental flight; is it $60 less even after the American cancellation fee?
$60 doesn't seem worth the hassle to me.

We have 2 flights booked on AA for 2012 and I'm not changing them nor am I worried about it.
Just as an FYI they filed Chapter 11 bankrupcy which is a restructure bankrupcy not Chapter 7 bankrupcy which is a liquidation bankrupcy.

no cancellation/change fee until 8 PM tonight (within 24 hours of our booking). We could cancel it for no fee, then rebook through a different airline and we would pay $60 less but we'd have to leave vacation a few hours earlier (9 AM instead of noon) and would get there one hour earlier on our arrival date.
The reason he's so stressed is he deals with bankruptcies all day as a job and has seen all sorts of crazy things happen, but he doesn't deal with airlines.
I wouldn't change it because of the bankruptcy. I would probably change it to save $60, but that is because I am cheap.
I'm cheap, too. Plus I'm off today, so I have time to spend on hold. I'll see what I can work out.
Thanks for the bankruptcy info!
I have elite status with AA and I'm not in the least bit worried about their prospects in 2012. In fact, I'm excited about all the promotions they'll be offering to encourage business. Double elite qualifying miles through the end of Jan, for example.
All major carriers like US and United have already restructured via a similar process. This was in the cards for AA.
This. You should be fine. I plan on booking with AA tonight for a trip in June. I'm not worried. If you want to cancel to get another flight for cheaper, that's up to you. FYI, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the best days to book flights because they are known to be the cheapest.
