PW's comment made me think we need a separate post for this. I am in the market too. I have until probably summer to buy one, but would buy now if that's the best deal. I'm looking for something pretty entry level price wise.
Someone on a national board had me pretty convinced to go with a refurbished T1i instead of the T3, but I'd like more opinions from the photographers here.
Re: Camera Talk
I upgraded from my point-and-shoot to the Canon T3i a few months ago. I've played around with it a few times at home and taken it on one vacation, so I'm far from a photography expert. I'm still learning the manual settings, but it's easy to use for an casual user like me.
I didn't look at the T1i when I was camera shopping, but I think one of the main differences besides megapixels is that the T3i has a swivel LCD screen and the T1i doesn't. But you can use the same lenses on them, so picture quality should be comparable.
Here's the thread I was referencing.

Here's what the photography board said when I posted over there in regards to sticking with T3 vs. T2i.

Here's what I responded to puppy in the thread below:
I am so not the person to ask, as I'm a total newbie to the DSLR world. MIL picked it out, but we decided to keep the one she got us. It's a Canon Rebel T3, which is Canon's entry level DSLR. We thought about upgrading to the T2i, which is the next step up. I talked to a couple of people and decided that the T3 really fits our needs (baby pics, family shots, keepsake stuff) and that we would save the extra money for another lens or two once we get the hang of using this camera. I'm not looking to become an amateur photographer. I just want nice, clear photos of baby boy and memories that I would be proud to hang on our walls or put in Christmas cards. Apparently one of the reasons TO upgrade would be the increased megapixels on the higher level DSLRs, but we're not going to be blowing anything up beyond 8xll or so.
Another camera that was recommended to us was the Nikon D3100 as a good beginner DSLR.
Maybe blinking or jlimberg can add more...?
