I know some of you Nesties have been there before.....
We're going in February. Air and hotel are booked, but I'd love suggestions on what to do/see while we are there. We're staying for 3 nights and will be sharing a suite with some friends, but won't have a car.
Anyone know of a place to get discounted show tickets? I've always wanted to see Cirque du Soleil, but it's SO expensive.
Also, we're not gamblers, so we're more into seeing sights, shopping, shows, and partying it up.
Any tips?
Re: Vegas, baby, Vegas!
I have been to Vegas a couple times. The first time I went with a big group of people that had already been there before, so I didn't get to do much of what I wanted to do. The second time, I went with the ex-H and had the opportunity to do more of the "tourist" thing.
First of all, it's A LOT of walking, but I highly recommend just walking up and down the whole strip and going into all of the hotels/casinos. One of the best parts of Vegas is just seeing Vegas. The inside of each of the hotels/casinos is an attraction in and of itself. The water fountain show outside the Bellagio at night is also a must.
Second, though it's out of the way and not cheap, I recommend going up to the top of the Stratosphere to get the view of Vegas. I really enjoyed seeing the whole expanse of Vegas from up there.
Third, you definitely, have to take a cab down to Fremont Street. The light show there is amazing, and it's fun to get a feel of the "old" Vegas.
Beyond that, I don't have much else to add. I keep saying that, when I go back, I really want to be able to do Vegas the "right way," a/k/a have the money to go to all the tastey restaurants and see some shows. I was unable to find any really good deals on shows when I was there last, which was in March.
Have fun!
When we went two (?) years ago, we saw K? at MGM which is a Cirque du Soleil show because it was the least expensive.
I want to say it was like $50-60 per person maybe? We really really enjoyed it!

This is what I'd suggest too. Just wander around and see stuff. Walking through Las Vegas Paris and the Venetian was probably my favorite part of the trip.
You might post this to the travel board too - there are lots of experienced Las Vegas travelers over there.
Great idea, I don't know why I didn't think to do that, lol. Sometimes I forget about the other boards.
Thanks for the other suggestions as well!!
we went to vegas last year & are going again this year (in april). my biggest suggestion is to bring some good walking shoes! We spent one day ALL day just walking up & then back down the strip and going into every casino on the way, literally 9 hours walking/stopping.
Do not bother with the tram that they advertise, it's stupid. you have to walk clear to the back of the hotel to get on it, wait for it & then where it drops you off at is at the back of another hotel so you have to walk all the way thru it to get back to the strip. by the time you've walked thru both hotels & waited, you could have walked.
what we DID discover on the last day & wish we knew earlier was the bus system. It's super cheap (like $7-8 for a day pass), it goes up and down the strip all day, it goes down to fremont street (much cheaper then a cab) and you can get on & off as you please. yes is a "bus" but it's not bad at all. When we go next time, we will for sure be using it more often. It's not too hard to figure out which bus you need to get on to get places and they are running like every 10 mins so you barely have to wait.
You MUST go to fremont street (old downtown vegas). you can't walk there so you have to take a cab or bus. it's pretty cool to check out. They just added a zip line there too so you can actually zip line above all of the crowd. Just google - fremont street zip line, i'm sure you'll find the info.
don't bother paying for drinks in casinos, just sit at a penny machine, spend a dollar and get free cocktails. DH never once paid for alcohol (unless we were out to eat) & the only time i did was by the pool which ended up being comp'd because of how much DH spent in the casino, lol.
We seen cirque show "O" at the bellagio, it's the most expensive one but it was awesome!! It's the one with water. If you go to the cirque website you can watch a little trailer of each show to see if there is one you like better. For me it was well worth the money & it was something I really wanted to do so I did it.
that's about all I got, have fun!!! I can't wait to go back this april.

We went about 5 years ago. We're not big gamblers either, but we enjoyed walking into all of the different hotels, seeing all of the free attractions, etc. I had gotten a list of 100 things to do for free in Vegas online and that was fun trying to do some of that.
We did see Cirque du Soleil KA, it was amazing! We loved it so much, we got tickets to see Mystere (sp?), it was also very good! But, unforunately, I don't think they offer many discounts on tickets. I think it's totally worth it! We also saw a cheesy "Vegas" style type show, I think the tickets were free with a drink purchase or something, it was very inexpensive.
We took a cab to Freemont street, that was a lot of fun, the lights are amazing and the atmosphere was fun.
There was a piano bar in NY, NY (I think) we went to and had a good time.
We went to the top of the Stratosphere (I so can not spell...lol), that was kinda pricey, but we didn't eat dinner at the top or ride any of the rides, so we saved there. The view was incredible!
Have fun, you're going to love it!
