I just can't this week, with work.

We are updating a major database housed in our office. I've suggested that I be in a couple of the meetings with IT to help this go smoothly but I was told it wasn't necessary since my boss wants to oversee the process herself. Fine. She calls me and my co-worker into her office a few minutes ago to discuss where we're at and she tells me she wants me to take over because she has too much on her plate. This is MONTHS of work. So, I start asking her questions and she's completely clueless. I don't think she took any notes in any of the several meetings she's had and now, I'm expected to just take over? I'm in the process of writing an email to the IT person updating the system and she is going to HATE having to explain all of this all over to me, I know it. Excuse me while I go slit my wrists. Seriously.

Re: I just can't this week, with work.

  • Both my bosses moved up a huge deadline to Friday instead of mid-January, which is what we had asked for and then both went away for holidays.  This was suppose to be my quiet week at work so I feel your pain!

  • I am so sorry for you -- I hate when this happens to me at my job. All you can do now is pull it off and use it for the next time -- prove that you do, in fact, need to be there when these things are discussed, to prevent this from happening again.

And shame on your boss, really, for not utilizing her staff better -- lack of respect for your ability to listen and learn and support her now means trouble all around to complete the task.
