recipe needed- cocktail weiners?

Hey ladies. I'm calling on all you recipe gurus! I need a recipe for cocktail weiners in some sort of sauce or.. something? It's for NYE, and we already have weiners in puff pastry. I also wanted to make some that were vegan, because we have 4 or 5 vegans coming. While they're used to fending for themselves, I wanted to make sure to have some things other than hummus for them. (I lean towards veggie myself, but love me my cheese) So, I have these vegan tofu dogs, and wanted to use them in some sort of recipe. So, I need a recipe that doesn't call for cream, eggs, cheese, or chicken stock.

Also, I don't have a crock pot, and I'm hoping to be able to toss this together fairly quickly. Thanks ladies!!!

Re: recipe needed- cocktail weiners?

  • My mom made meatballs & cocktail weiners in a really good sauce when I was home. It was very random, but it's cranberry sauce (from the can), bbq sauce and lemon juice. I think you just kind of guestimate until it tastes good. She did hers in the crock pot, but I'm sure you could heat it over the stove. No idea how that would bee with tofu dogs, but it fits your recipe criteria.

  • The tofu dogs taste just like the beef ones.. the texture is just odd. I was seeing recipes that called for cranberry sauce, grape jelly or currant jelly. I thought it looked odd, but I'll take your lead! Thanks :)
  • this might sound really lame but when i ate meat i would cook those weiners in KC masterpiece bbq sauce and they were amazing. you can do them stove top of crockpot.

can't help on the vegan... i'm lacto ovo. vegan is tough. all i can think of is some sort of marinated tofu or tempeh. but i don't have a recipe. it's great that you are providing for them though.

  • I did the same thing as kare's mom, minus the lemon juice. Just cooked a cup (maybe 1.25c or so) of BBQ sauce and a can of *whole* cranberry sauce from the can over the stove until it all mixed and there weren't any cranberry sauce chunks.

  • So it looks like I have a recipe idea then.. Whoda thunk it? Grape/cranberry jelly and hotdogs? We'll see how it goes! I saw the recipes and thought it was just so weird!

MD- I lean ovo-lacto for 90% of my diet. Every so often, I crave meat and have a small bit.. allbeit rare. One of my best friends is vegan, and I have no clue how she does it so healthily. I try to provide for everyone, because I know how it is to be singled out because of diet!
