Chicago advice

BF took a long weekend in Jan because we were going to go to the Philly winter classic to watch one of his hockey friends play but said friend is recovering from surgery so we aren't going now.

Instead, we are thinking about spending the time in Chicago since it is fairly close to us. I have never stayed over night before. I have been to the aquarium, some of the museums, Navy Pier, and did some shopping but that is about it.

I need recommendations on activities and maybe some good food options too. We plan to stay somewhere right downtown.

Re: Chicago advice

  • Im a lurker and never post but we just got back from Chicago so I thought I would chime in.  We stayed at the River Hotel which is right next to the Hyatt on Wacker.  Its a small boutique hotel and it was pretty inexpensive.  Since we didnt spend any time in the hotel other than to sleep, it worked great for us.  We hit some bars and then had dinner at Rosebuds on Rush St.  We took a boat ride to see all the buildings and get the history which was pretty cool, although if you go in January, it may be a little cold.  We went and had drinks at the top of the Hancock tower and it was awesome.  Great city, you'll have a great time no matter what.
  • I went to a GTG for my anniversary board last spring and we stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel. It was awesome! Loved the atmosphere of the bar (Angels & Kings) and the China Grill was AMAZING for dinner. Within walking distance of a lot of other great things as well, including Garrett's Popcorn...mmmmmmm.

  • I can totally help out with this!  I used to live and work in the city.

You might want to go to Millenium Park if you like ice skating.  They have an outdoor rink they set up there in the winter and it's fun plus you'll get to see the bean.  If you're looking for something fun to do at night, Howl at the Moon is really fun.  It's a very lively piano bar.

For food, Hub 51 is really good.  I just went to Carnivale last week and that was good too.  Some of my other favorites are China Grill in the Hard Rock Hotel, Devon Seafood Grille which is near Water Tower, and Nacional 27.

It might be chilly, but we did spend a lot of time inside.  And we didn't feel guilty for eating so many awesome things because we walked it all off!
