Re: Where to stay in Paris?
Great question. I'm curious too.
We currently have the following on our list of options (but are looking for more)
http://www.paris-montparnasse-hotel.com/uk/ <someone on this board rec'd it. It's in St. Germain area
Hotel Select <my family stayed here in April and rec it (Latin Qtr). It's the most expensive of the 3, but it includes breakfast automatically. (It's optional at the others)
All of these are approx 150-170E per night for the April dates we're looking at (I'm hoping to find something cheaper)

I have been to Paris three times, and each time I stayed in the Rue Cler neighborhood. This area is close to the Eiffel Tower, metro stops, and has lots of fun shops/restaurants to choose from.
My favorite hotel in the neighborhood is Hotel Muguet (http://www.hotelparismuguet.com/)
I have also stayed at Hotel de Turenne (http://www.hotel-turenne.com/en) which was fine, but not nearly as nice as Hotel Muguet. Lastly, I also stayed at Hotel Royal Phare (http://www.hotel-royalphare-paris.com/) which was super cheap but I wouldn't recommend it.
All three of the hotels have views of the Eiffel Tower.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

Sweet little hotel in the Latin Quarter.
I've stayed in the 11th and 18th arrondissements but on our most recent trip there I stayed in the Rue Cler area at the Hotel du Cadran. It was a very cute place (and like others I also liked the feel of the Rue Cler neighborhood). We booked one of their packages which I felt was a really good deal (Paris museum passes and breakfast included). My only complaint was the size of the bathrooms but unless you have the $$$ to shell out for the Ritz, that's Paris for you.
Here's my review of the hotel from my blog:

And the hotel's website:

We stayed at Jardin de l'odeon and absolutely loved it. Rooms were super clean, spacious bathroom, and fairly decently sized rooms. Plus the price was fantastic. It was a 5 minute walk to Notre Dame. We loved the area, there were some really great restaurants and shopping nearby. We also enjoyed the Luxembourg Gardens.

I believe there is a tab on their website titled contact us and their email address and phone number is listed there. When I booked my reservations with them a few years ago, I just emailed them and they were very responsive! :-)
I used to live in Paris. Because of that, some of the recommended areas from the pp's above I would not be interested in. I would say that my personal favorite areas are the 4th and the 6th arrondissements. The 1st and 5th are also good. Try to stay as close to the Seine as possible. I am dying to go back and show my H everything I love about Paris. I am going to try to rent a furnished apartment instead of getting a hotel. I like the idea of feeling like i am living there and to have access to a kitchen so that we can shop at the open markets and bring home and prepare food if we wish.
Take a look on the Fusac website which I will link below.. It is a magazine for english speakers in Paris and has loads of different companies that have apartment rentals within the city. I have been looking recently and found some amazing deals. I even found some apartments located on Ile saint Louis which is one of the small islands in the middle of the Seine in the center of the city.

I've been wanting to ask this myself. DH surprised me with a trip to Paris for Christmas which is great except for the fact that all he did was choose the dates and flights, and I'm the one scrambling to come up with a hotel and itinerary in less than six weeks.
This is where we have been looking. Well, more like 4th, 5th, and the 6th/7th border. Family members recommended:

I am leaning towards Ile St. Louis (the middle two hotel links) but I think DH would rather St. Germain which is where my parents and also my brother stayed (the first two links). The last two hotels are in the Latin Quarter but near the Seine so that has some appeal as well.
Anyone else have any experience with any of those?
Kristin,
I would say that your top three choices are all great or the Hotel Henri. If it were me it would be between the one on Ile Saint Louis or the Hotel Henri as I really like the area right there although you are not overlooking the Seine but a close stroll to it for sure. The two top hotels are well situated too and you couldn't go wrong with either of them. You can google map all of them to get the street view which I would suggest. I am so jealous you get to go so soon! Have fun!
We stayed at the Hotel Splendid with a view of the Eiffel tour.
It was an amazing view and right off the Rue Cler. We loved it.
Have fun in Paris!
