WWSND? (RE Renters Insurance)
About a year ago my dog dug a small hole (about 2"x2") in the corner of carpet by our bedroom door. Then-FI told me he would take care of it, since I was way too busy doing wedding planning stuff. Well, he never did, and we plan on moving out of our apartment at the end of January, so this needs to get resolved now.
We have rental insurance through State Farm, but we haven't submitted a claim with them yet. Can someone explain what we should tell our agent, or what to look for on our policy plan as far as coverage goes?

What's your deductible?
Have you gotten estimates on what it would take to patch/replace the carpet? Can it be matched? (Are you sure fixing it will cost more than your deductible?)

I didn't think renter's insurance covered self-done damages (including those by pets), but I didn't pay much attention to the policy I had back in the day. It was more for your things (I thought) if they were damaged by things that happened in the apartment; like if there was a fire and the sprinkler system destroyed your belongings?
But I am not sure.

Is it noticeable? Could you try to repair it yourself?? the people may not even notice...
I know that sounds bad but seriously.
this. patching carpet isn't difficult...and 2x2 isn't too bad.
