Poll: Charitable Contributions
Only a few days left to get in charitable contributions for 2011. Do you give to charity? Who do you contribute to?
Re: Poll: Charitable Contributions
I do. Through work, I have automatic payroll deductions as part of the Combined Federal Campaign and donate to Women Empowered Against Violence, which provides shelters, counseling, and legal representation for battered women, and to the DC Legal Aid Society, which provides legal assistance to lower income people.
DH and I both donate to our undergrad colleges.
And I give clothing and household items to Goodwill and the Purple Heart Foundation. Plus we usually do something for a local homeless shelter through my sorority alumnae group. This year, we did tins filled with everything you would need to make holiday cookies for a family shelter. In the past, we have done bags of toiletries for women's shelters and prom dresses for local high school girls.
The only one I regularly donate to is my college. I do a lot of volunteering of my time the rest of the year.
If there is something else that we feel compelled to donate to throughout the year we will.
My Blog
Yep, those ASPCA commercials finally got me about 2 years ago. We've been giving monthly ever since. Now I don't feel so bad when I see the commercials since I know we are giving.
We also give to the Michigan Humane Society and the Humane Society of Huron Valley (local, where we adopted one of ours.)
I participate in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) at work. Each pay check, money is directly sent to the National Marfan Foundation (the genetic connective tissue disorder my dad, brother and sister have).
We also donate throughout the year to our college and am always donating clothes to Goodwill.
If a friend or family member is participating in a run/walk/etc, we often donate money to support them and the charity they are representing.
Our clothes/ household items are donated to Purple Heart or Goodwill. We are also more of a contribute throughout the year family. My work (yup the bar) does a ton of fundraising for tons of groups such as Special Olympics and the local volunteer fire company. I also always try to give when I know people participating in a walk or something like that.
