I really, really want to lose the 15 pounds I have put on over the last year. I've got a closet full of clothes that are too snug. But I'm terrible about working out. My eating habits are not terrible, but they could be improved. However, working out is where I really need help. I live in a very rural area and it's very cold and snowy here in the winter, so there aren't a lot of opportunities to go out and exercise.
I'm looking for recommendations of engaging exercise videos. Zumba, dance, etc. That type of thing. I have the 30-Day Shred, but I found it very mundane and redundant. Any suggestions? I appreciate it!
Re: Exercise Video Recs
I'm not sure what kind of activities you like to do, but I love Tae Bo! It's a great cardio/muscle toning workout in one.
I also have P90X which I like, it's pretty intense and there are about 5 of 6 DVDs to pick from. My sister in law got INSANITY for her birthday and she prefers that over P90X, I know a few people that do. I haven't tried it yet, but I bet it's pretty good.
Hip Hop Abs and Turbo Jam are good too.
In the mornings I actually go on YouTube and do "sparkpeople" workouts. There's about 4 or 5 of them about 15 minutes each, so you can do one in the morning, one at night and still get in a good 30 minutes or mix n match to fit your time frame.
I also highly recommend the kettlebell. I started using it this past spring in bootcamp and it's a great workout. You can build muscle and use it as cardio too. I've gotten good workouts on youtube and just do it while watching tv at night.
Hope that helps!
Courtney, thanks for all of the suggestions! I haven't tried Tae Bo yet. I might have to do that. My problem is that I've always enjoyed being active but only in a competitive aspect. I could play volleyball all day long and not realize that I am exercising. But I'm terrible at simply exercising.
We have P90X and Insanity, so I'm hoping what I get into the groove of things I can switch to one of those. Right now, though, they look incredibly intimidating.
I'm going to check out those YouTube videos you suggested. I also picked up a dance workout DVD at WalMart yesterday. I don't know if it's any good yet, but it was only $10 so I won't be out a lot if it isn't. Thanks again!
I hear you on this one! When I cheered in HS, we had two days a week in the weight room, runs before practice on top of 9 hours a week of actual practice. I've never been in better shape and didn't realize how much of a workout it was until I hit college and actually had to watch what I ate bc I wasn't cheering all the time. And as it gets colder here, I don't run/walk outside as much so I too need to start getting back into workout DVD mode!
I have the PX90 DVDs too after my brother recommended it. I've used it on and off.
I tend to like any exercise that involves dancing. It keeps my mind off the fact that I am actually exercising. For Christmas, my hubby got me The Black Eyed Peas Experience dance game for the Wii which I have yet to try. There are other games like that for Wii or other game consoles available... maybe something like that will satisfy your competitive appetite?
You should let me know what you think of the Black Eyed Peas game. That sounds great! We have a Wii, so it's something I could look into!
