Re: babies with eczema

  • Bathing him too much can make it worse. When D was that little, we did a bath 3 times a week. They don't get dirty when they are that little. I always used crtaphil cleanser and eucerin lotion after every bath. I slathered it on him. The only thing I found to clear up his bad patches was triple paste severe dry skin care lotion. they pedi told me to use cortisone cream (and I did when he first got it and t was BAD) but I didnt like using it do frequently do that triple paste stuff is great.

Good luck with it. And Definetly stay on top of it bc it is very uncomfortable for them. I have a friend who doesn't and my heart breaks for her poor baby.  she says it's just dry skin and he'll live. Poor kid.

  • Yeah, I agree...definatly don't start bathing him more, it will make it worse. If anything, see if you can get away with only bathing him 2-3 times per week.

  • He has a lot f hair like D, so sometimes I would just quick wash his hair in the sink. Thats really the only place they get sweaty and greasy.

I believe I got the cream at BRU or Target. This is it.

As for that link, I dont know about that stuff. I def would not sit my baby in a bleach bath, thats crazy. As soon as I starting doing the regimen I listed above, it was gone (but I had to keep it up, if I stopped, it flared up again). In the summer it never flared up.

Im trying Mustela now (2 days so far) bc I ran out of all my other stuff and always wanted to try this. So ill let you know how it is. Im still using the TP cream though on his trouble spots.

  • thanks! yeah i def would not sit A in a bath like that either. I am going to try the cream you mentioned but still see the dr tomorrow. i know they are going to suggest more tummy time, ect. however, A kicks his legs to the point where he sometimes rolls. and hes not steady enough to just be on the floor. let me know how you make out! thanks!

  • CJ had bad eczema until he was about 6 months old. We bathed him daily using a Dove Sensitive bar followed by Aquaphor.

Bathing daily is often recommended for kiddos with eczema because studies have shown that there are an increased amount of microbes on their skin that can aggravate the condition.

Regarding bleach baths, my friend's daughter has severe allergies, which has resulted in severe eczema (severe as in she wears footed pajamas all. the. time. because she scratches so much, even with all of the meds she's on.) It's the one thing that's actually helped her. Again, people with eczema have an increased number of microbes on their skin and that exacerbates the skin issue.

I would definitely recommend talking to your pedi about how often you should bathe A and how to treat it. For CJ, this was what came right before he started having GI reactions to dairy and soy. Not saying that A has allergies, but something to be aware of...

  • Thanks! We are going to get an appointment with our pedi tomorrow. I would like to take care of this before the long weekend!
