NYE plans? [and a mini poll]

What is everyone doing for NYE?

Our good friends are having a party which I'm thrilled about because we don't exactly live in the most glorious city for going out to fancy NYE-type bars or clubs. Extra bonus: other friends are coming down to visit from out of town and she is preggers = guaranteed DD!

My mini-poll: What do I wear?? I have a gorgeous silver sequin dress, but I wore it 3 years ago on NYE (hanging out with these same people). Too memorable to wear again, or am I good? I also have a long sleeve velvet minidress that is an option. Or.......buy something new! (although I really don't have time)

Re: NYE plans? [and a mini poll]

  • We are going out to a nice restaurant with a large group.  We also have friends coming down and are staying with us for the long weekend.

I am not really the best person to give clothing advice, I generally have non memorable stuff, so I do re-wear a good bit.  I have actually discovered that Dress Barn can have some good stuff for not too expensive.  I got a red dress there for a Christmas party that I just love for something like $50.  It is a memorable dress so I will have to be careful about re-wearing it, but man it was fun to wear.  I feel that sequins are memorable, but are there pictures up on Facebook?  If there are no pictures up of you in it then people will be much less likely to realize it is the same dress.

  • I wouldn't feel weird about wearing the silver sequin dress, 3 years is a long time. I wouldn't remember what anyone wore 3 years ago, and even if I'd recognize something you wore 3 years ago I think that's plenty of time to forget it. How many opportunities do you get to wear something like that anyway.

  • We are *hopefully* going out to dinner with my bestie and her d-bag boyfriend. He's a nice guy..just, well...a d-bag. Then Jeff's bestie (haha) is having a party. We will probably go there. I am OBVIOUSLY the DD for the night! Hehe! : )

I ditto the "Is it on Facebook" question. If it isn't, wear it...if it is...buy something new! Just because that would be fun! I am trying to figure out what I can squeeze my ever growing azz into! Hahahah!

  • I love how "is it on facebook" is the test of whether to re-wear an outfit. It's so true though! I have attended weddings where NONE of the same people would be there, but if the dress is all over facebook I won't do it.

As for the sequins, there is only one profile pic from 2008 so I think I'm safe. Like Lisa (I think) said, how often do you get to wear full sequins?

  • Party is at our place.  We are having Christmas with our friends and then playing games and hanging out.  I can't wait to all be together again.  We usually have so much fun hanging out and playing Wii.  We will have lots of apps/snack food to much on all night to help with the drinking.

I say wear the dress.  You don't get to wear cute sparkly dressed very often, so I say go for it.

  • We are going to a wedding! I am super excited...it's our best man's wedding, so a big chunk of our group of friends will be there. They reserved the venue until 12:30, so we can party into the new year!

I would totally re wear the dress...I hardly remember what I wore last week, let alone 3 years ago :)

  • First we're going out to dinner with my mom, then we're going to my SIL's house for an annual NYE party with my ILs.  This year it's extra special because another SIL is 50 today and 3 of her 4 kids are throwing her a surprise party.  She's been pretty upset beause she's been talking for 6 months about wanting  a 50th birthday party and as of now she thinks this is just another Lemire Family NYE gathering with nobody throwing her a party, but lilttle does she know it's going to be all about her tomorrow!!!  I can't wait!!!  I just hope Mike somehow kicks this wicked chest/head cold he's had all week. It won't help him being around all that smoke.  All 6 of his siblings here smoke.

Wear the sequins!  I'm wearing my sequins too - I wore it to our family Xmas party in PA a few weeks ago and it's on FB but I don't care since it's a different group of family members.  PLus it's NYE!  Sequin time!  =)

These are my thoughts exactly!  Thanks to FB and instant photo sharing, there's NO WAY you can recycle outfits anymore! UGHH  Even with different groups of people, because the whole WORLD sees it.  I would buy a new dress, because I'm insane.  But it sounds really pretty, so wear the sequins and change it up with different accessories and all, no one will be sober enough to notice!!!! :)

Oh, and, we are doing our usual NYE.  Going out to dinner (a new Cuban place that I'm very excited about trying) and then watching movies at home and watching the ball drop and drink champagne. After all the socializing with family and friends over the holidays, I'm ready to veg out.  My friend is having people over on New Year's Day, but it's 40 miles away from my house, so I might skip out and stay in my PJ's all day instead.  We'll see

  • I say, re-wear the sequin dress!  If you feel fabulous in it, who cares if you've worn it for NYE before! Be fabulous again :D

We are staying in with DH's family and probably playing board games and drinking, so I'm going to keep the sequins in the drawer.  I do, however have a hot and super glittery sweater that I think will be perfect for NYE this year :)

  • I totally didn't answer the other part of this post lol

We are going to a hockey buddy's house tonight (party starts at 8, is that late??) so today I'm making a pasta salad and cookies to take with us. Sounds like it'll be more of a casual type. Still never been to a dress up NYE party :-P Oh well maybe next year!
