Long Story!!! RIP Melinda/ Hali you are in my prayers!

A couple of years ago, my oldest brother Tony lived with his girlfriend Melinda and her daughter Hali. At the time  Melinda was recently divorce from Hali's father. Hali was 3 years old when we meet her. The relationship between my brother and Melinda only lasted for 6 years. Just a few years later Melinda re-married. Out of respect for Melinda and her current husband's privacy we stop all communitcation with her and Hali.

We recently found Hali on facebook this year and requested her to be our friend. However, on this Christmas Eve Melinda pass away due to Cancer. From what I read on Hali's wall, Melinda has been battling it for the past 3 years. My heart goes out to Melinda's family and Hali. I wishes we can do more than just comment on Hali's wall, but I can't. I feel it's not our place to fly out to Maryland and be with her family since Melinda remarried and has a new family.

On Dec. 22 my brother jumps on a plane to come home for the Holiday's to Florida. None of us expected him to recieve this kind of news during his stay with us. We had just finish Christmas Eve dinner and playing our Dirty Santa Game when a co-worker of Tony calls and tells him the bad news. We all started crying and praying for Hali to be strong.

Tony lives in Virginia now, he really wants to drive to Maryland and be there for Hali, but he tells us that she has a father and a step father, what place does he have being there. I really don't have any advise to give him.

Hali did write this on her wall when her mother past away..."I never thought this day would actually come... It's so unreal and so heart breaking. But the love I have in my heart for you is ever lasting. You mean everything to me and everything I do is all for you. I love you so much I hope you know <3 please rest in paradise Mommy. You are not in pain or suffering anymore. I Love You..."

To Melinda, I will try to be part of Hali life if she let's me in and Try my hardest to be a good roll model for her.

Please I really need your prayers for 16 year old Hali Alexandra to be strong and wise for she will be without her mother Melinda during her next few teenage years.

  • Wow, so sad.  I totally get how your brother would feel frustrated and helpless...I'm sure he wants to be there for Hali, but doesn't know if he belongs there.  That's tough.  What a sad story :(

  • Aww, I am so sorry to hear of this.  It's so hard to lose a loved one to cancer and I couldn't imagine what Hali is going through.  I have friends who have lost a parent when they were teenagers and this cannot be easy for anybody to handle.  She is in my thoughts and prayers, and so are all her family members and loved ones.

If she chooses to let you all back into her life I don't see any reason for you to hesitate.  She was a part of your lives for 6 years and while she has a new family now, she is old enough to decide for herself who she chooses to be friends with.  Open your arms to her to let her know you are there for her, then the ball will be in her court on how she wants to proceed.  Good luck with all!!!  xoxo

Ditto, I'm sending tons of thoughts and prayers for her to be strong and use the support of her father and stepfather. She will need a female support system more than you know, especially as the years go on, so even if she doesn't reach out now, every once in a while just stay in touch. I know since I lost my mom (I was 21) I feel that hole and fortunately I have my BFF's mom to fill some of it. Lots of hugs and good vibes for you and reaching out to her.
