What about Mustang?

Speaking of places to live, I mean. Is there anything weird about Mustang that I should know about?

We're looking for a place that roughly splits the difference between commutes. H works in the Penn Square area, and I work near OU. My commute is against traffic, so I'd rather have the longer one - ideally we want H's to be only about 15 min or so due to his line of work. We're looking for a neighborhood that has lots on an acre or so, and that isn't in the ghetto. This is harder than I thought, actually. Do you have any suggestions for areas?

Re: What about Mustang?

  • There are lots of new neighborhoods in Mustang and Yukon. There are older parts of both cities that are more run down, but they're both growing a lot, especially Yukon. We used to live in NW OKC so moving to Mustang has been an adjustment. I'm not used to living in the "country" (hey, living out here is country to me). I don't like driving 30 minutes to get just about anywhere. However, there is a lot less traffic out here. I really like our neighborhood and area. We are close to several highways, which makes getting to different parts of the city convenient. I think Mustang is going to be a great community to raise our kids. The community center is great and always has fun things going on especially for kids. The crime rate is also very low and the schools are supposedly great.

I'm not sure what your price range is, but there are several very nice neighborhoods with large lots. Have you looked off Garth brooks/cemetery road? My parents looked in Fawn Trails (they have decent sized lots, not sure if they're an acre) and I've driven by several others in that area.

Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions about mustang :)

  • BL, you have no idea how helpful that information is for me. We were both starting to get really discouraged after we started figuring out our acceptable parameters. This is exactly the kind of information I was looking for.

I think we've got similar situations, too. We'll be moving from NW OKC, and looking for country-style living as well, but we need something that we'll be able to sell again later on down the road, so a safe, growing town is a big plus. We're going to have to get serious in a month or two...I really can't wait!

As time goes on I'll probably send you a pm about more information. Thank you!!!

  • It takes me anywhere from 25-30 min to get to penn square from mustang.  Norman takes around 40min for us and it's easy to hop on hwy 4 to get there.  I love how central it is.  My family lives out west and it's fast to get to them and also easy access to the turnpike, 240, 44 and 40.  I think we will see a ton of new restaurants etc coming into Mustang.  The city has had over 300 construction permits in 2011 alone.  Great neighborhoods, friendly people.  I am stoked to raise my kid here.  We are on an acre in town and that's nice too--there's actually some space to live on.  Let me know if you want any specifics!

  • We recently moved to Mustang from Blanchard and we're in the process of building a house there right now. So far, we like it. It really depends where at in Mustang you live concerning the commute. We live on the northeast side. I feel like we are so close to everything. It takes me 15 to get to Penn Square. Less than 15 minutes to get to the south OKC. 8 minutes to Wal-Mart. 5 minutes to the outlet mall. Coming from a 25 minute drive to absolutely anything in Blanchard, I feel like I'm city living in Mustang!

My mom has been looking for a reasonably priced acreage in the area for awhile now. Her favorites are Fawn Trails and Sara Homestead. Sara isn't an acreage, but they are decent sized lots. There are a few other neighborhoods with nearly acre lots, but I can't think of their names.
