What did you do with your wedding dress?

I have no desire to keep my dress as a sentimental keepsake. I never had it cleaned after the wedding and it's been in the dress bag which is stuffed in a plastic tote in my closet for the better part of 2 years. I pretty sure selling it would not be an option at this point. If I remember correctly there are footprints on the train and blue frosting inside the bust area. I'm not sure that would come out 2 years later.

Would you consign it? Take it to Goodwill? Donate it to charity?  What did you do with your dress?

Re: What did you do with your wedding dress?

  • Tossed it in a bag and gave it to Goodwill.

  • Mine is still in the dress bag in the back of my closet. I don't really have any use for it but can't seem to part with it.

  • Mine is in a box under my bed.  I don't know what to do with it.
  • I sold mine on ebay within a month of the wedding.

It depends on whether or not you want to "try" and clean it (to sell it). I would either just donate it, or wash it gently in the bathtub with woolite, you can use a soft toothbrush on delicate/problem areas or just give it away. You can also give it to your photographer (if you had one). Photogs love dresses for TTD sessions or if they are doing "fake" wedding shots. Stuff like that.

  • I'm thinking Goodwill might be my best option. I don't feel like making an effort to try to clean it. I should have made this decision 2 years ago.

It feels like a lifetime ago. I need to finally decide what to do with my aisle runner too. It's staying for sure, I'm just not sure where.  I was thinking about framing the end and hanging it somewhere.

  • I need to sell mine on eBay.

  • Mine is in the bag in my mom's closet. It's never been cleaned so I really need to get around to that. I've thought of donating it but I just can't do it. My mom still had her wedding dress and although none of us planned to wear it, all 3 of us girls really enjoyed being able to pull it out and try it on, etc. I'm also not opposed to my future daughters (if I have any) cutting it up. I guess I'd rather just give them the option, but I'm a sentimental sap.

I had a panel sewn into my dress with my birth name and birth date, and then my married name and wedding date so if I did sell it or donate it I would absolutely remove that first.

  • Try Craigslist... I sold mine to a girl for her prom or something for like $30. Better than nothing?

    That's a good idea, thanks!

  • Mine is in a garment bag hanging in the office closet or on the back of the door.  I'll need to do something with it soon since the office is becoming the new baby's room.  I got my dress of the $99 rack, so I am not worried about the monetary investment of it, but it would be nice to see if I could ever lose enough weight to fit into it again :)

  • Mine is in the guest room closet in a bag. I plan to have it cleaned and keep it for M.  I'm sure by then it won't be the style and she won't want to wear it. But, of she's like me, she'll appreciate it and maybe want to use it in some way. So I'll hold onto it to give her the option.
  • I did some research and I really like this organization if you'd like to donate it:

You'd have to ship it, but you could do that pretty cheaply I'd imagine.

    Just a thought!

Thanks! I listed it on Craigslist but I'm not sure it will sell. If I decide to donate this is a great option.

  • I'm thinking about putting mine in the burn barrel.
  • I had mine cleaned. It is in a box, in the closet. If we ever have a little girl, I will let her play with it. Like Lucky, I loved looking at my moms as a little girl.
Another old nestie with a new name.
  • It's still hanging in my closet.  I haven't had it cleaned but I think I want to do that and have it preserved.  I don't know why but I'm really sentimental about it.
