I know, it's weird I've had tacos so infrequently. I believe the first time I had them was 5 years ago?! Maybe?! I tend to make quesadillas, fajitas, enchiladas, burritos and never ever think of tacos.
Re: kasi
OK, so you've at least had Mexican food! Whew!
The best tacos are the ones on the little tiny tortillas (not sure if they have them there) with the meat, onions, and cilantro on it. Delicious! I wish I could ship some Mexican food everyone's way that doesn't live in an area where it's plentiful.

Yup, I just guess I never eat tacos when I go out to eat... and never think to make them at home. We always try to get some good Mexican when we visit CA.
ETA: A friend of mine who is Puerto Rican told me that I make a mean enchilada for a white woman.

One pizza joint here makes a decent chicken chimichanga. Then I went to Florida over the summer and went to my favorite authentic mexican hole in the wall. Now the pizza joint chimichanga is very disappointing.
I love Mexican food.
When I lived in NC people raved about this "authentic" Mexican restaurant. I tried it and was very displeased with the food. Authentic my butt! They put htis nasty white sauce on stuff. It tasted like powdered milk mixed with water. Yuck.
I don't think I could ever move out of CA ever again for fear of losing out on eating Mexican food (my fave!).
Speaking of queso (Amanda mentioned it in her post about the food she's serving) they don't have that here. I mean sure there's cheese but they don't serve it melted (cheese sauce) at restaurants here. Maybe at Chili's or something but not at Mexican joints. They had this discussion yesterday on some other board I was on yesterday. People kept talking about queso and I was wondering what the heck they meant. Queso means cheese but they meant it as melted cheese sauce like you buy in the jar at the store.
