Catering question

So I'm still trying to find a caterer for my wedding reception. I just talked to the in-house caterer for my venue and when I said I wanted to offer a beef option and a chicken option she said they don't do that. Wtf? That's pretty standard for a served dinner at an event like that, right? Am I crazy?

Re: Catering question

  • IMO, this is how the conversation should have went:

Wendy - I would like a chicken and a beef option.

Caterer - Hmmm..we haven't done that in awhile. Let me talk to the chef about pricing and get back to you.

I really don't understand the total lack of customer service these days. If you are asking about it, it is probably because you are willing to pay for it, right, and if the caterer is in the business of making money....hmmm...seems like a no brainer to me...

  • This is how it actually went:

Me : I'd like to get a copy of your plated dinner menu. After I review that I can send back some more specific details of what I want and request a formal estimate.

Her: Sends (eventually, after repeated requests)

Me: Sends email giving all details and that I'd like to offer option A and Option B, with estimated quantities of each

Her: Calls me - We don't DO that. You can get a dual entree meal (more expensive of course) so your guests get a 4 oz portion of each instead.

Me: That's not really what I'm looking for. I have guests that will only eat one or the other.

Her: Well I guess we COULD put a little pig or chicken sticker on the tables (um, no, particularly since neither of the options I requested was pork, how about color coded placecards?) I'll have to ask the owner what he would charge you for that.

    Me: Thanks.

  • Maybe I'm totally out of touch, but yes, I agree with you. How is offering a beef option and a chicken option NOT a usual thing?

See, this is why I'm so confused. Perusing menus I've gotten from three major caterers in this area, I see none that are structured to allow for that.

Someone tell me you did this and what caterer you used, pretty please.

Have you spoken to anyone at Ned's?  His food is ridiculous.

Thats who this post is about. Indifferent. Ridiculous good or ridiculous bad?

I got married in TX and did heavy hors d-oeuvres, so I'm no help, sorry.

I'm just perplexed. Like, is this just a thing in the movies where you can have a chicken or beef plate? And what if you wanted a vegetarian plate option?

    Ridiculous GOOOOOOOOOOD.

  • I did a buffet where everyone just filled their plate and sat at tables.  I'm no help.  Just wanted to say good luck!  Hopefully you'll find someone that actually wants to provide you with what you're wanting instead of insisting on doing it their way only.

I can't remember!  Sorry - I have been to several events at his place there near CHK.  They were all buffets, though.

  • I'm really late to this question but I'm using Abbey Road. We are offering three options, chicken, pork tenderloin and a pasta dish for vegetarians. The place cards will have one red (one of our colors) rhinestone for chicken, two for the pork and nothing for the pasta dish.

They also requested a list of plates by table, say of the 8 people at table 1, there are 4 pork , 3 chicken and 1 pasta. etc... They have been very easy to work with and have given me no issue with having options..
