So seriously, this sleep thing..

I posted a few weeks ago about having trouble sleeping, and I got some great advice about sleeping better.

Its gotten worse and it is suckitude.

I have the TV off and Internet off at 8:30, sometimes 9 pm with a goal of getting to sleep by 10.  I sit in the recliner and read with the puggle curled up next to me.  I drink herbal sleepytime tea or, failing that, some hot water with a lemon slice.  I do this until 9:30 at the latest.  I then brush my teeth, wash my face, lock the doors, retrieve Elliot and get her settled in, and I'm in bed with about 20 minutes to go until 10.  I STILL lay awake for hours.  I try the tightening and relaxing muscles, counting backwards slowly, etc.  NOTHING.  And when I do fall asleep much later than intended, I wake up a few times through the night for no reason, I don't even have to use the bathroom.

I'm essentially living off of a series of naps.

No advice needed, I'll probably talk to my doc on Thursday when I have my next appointment. I just needed a place to whine like a giant baby.

  • That sucks. It probably won't help, but you could try washing your face/teeth before you read. Washing my face always wakes me up so if I do all that earlier, I fall asleep quicker.
  • That sucks!! Nobody ever told me how pregnancy can really mess up your sleep so early on. Mine goes through cycles, I'll have trouble for awhile and then it'll be better. Hopefully you get some relief soon!!

  • It's probably pregnancy related. I went through periods of insomnia and fantastic sleep.
  • I hate to say this but you have pick a day and give up your naps.  It's probably just making it worse for you.  I know it's going to really suck, but then maybe you will be nice and tired at bedtime.  You might also want to cut out all caffeine to see if that's any help.  Sometimes I totally forget that Pepsi has caffeine and I'll have a big glass with dinner and can't figure out why I'm so wakeful later on.

Phenergan is the only thing that helps knock me out sometimes during pregnancy, so I can totally relate.  I hope it gets a lot better for you, D!
