Dusting draped curtains

We have some heavy curtains draped in our family room that are in desperate need of dusting. Running a dusting cloth over them is tricky at best and basically ineffective. I am reluctant to try to vacuum because of the height (my lightweight hand-held vacuum doesn't do the trick) and because I don't want to disturb the draping too much. Any suggestions? Would a feather duster work? Is the vacuum really the best option? Thanks for any suggestions!

Re: Dusting draped curtains

  • You might try a wet cloth -- brush down the drapes gently, starting at the top and then working your way down.
  • Once a week, I run a lint roller down our velvet drapes.  That may help you.
  • Good ideas, both.  Thank you!

  • I use the red type of lint brush that doesn't use the papers but cleans the curtains. We have four cats so our problem is the hair on them. I also take my curtains down and wash them in the washer and dry them in the dryer. Sometimes I have to iron them, but the washer seems to be the most effecient way of cleaning them.
