allergy testing..hives

Has anyone does this for their child?  Jack got hives on Wednesday morning, they have disappeared and reappeared since in new locations.  Took him to doctor and we have to watch. If it last 1 week he automatically gets allergy tests, otherwise we decided next time these occur allergy tests.

We have changed nothing in his diet, clothing, etc.  The only thing I could think it may be was DH cleaned mattress with Simple Green but even that was 1 week before these appeared.  Since then I have rewashed and cleaned everything.  He is on Benadryl (generic kind since there was a recall on all brand name FYI).

Re: allergy testing..hives

  • CJ has had skin tests twice and bloodwork once. The first time was at Mt. Sinai and they did a prick test for 5 allergens. He was 6 months old and he did fine with it. I'm assuming it was painless because he didn't cry or whimper at all. The second time was in October at a local allergist and they did a patch test for about 40 allergens. After we got those results, the doctor sent us for a RAST test to confirm the results, and that was just a regular blood draw.

Good luck with Jack. I hope they clear up soon and it's nothing!

  • K went through a period where she got hives that would come and go.  There are cold induced hives, hives from friction, etc.  She would get a massive one somewhere, and an hour later it would be gone and somewhere else.  They cleared up after a few weeks.  I wouldn't jump to allergy testing unless you really think its a reaction to something
  • my stepson gets them from temp changes...too hot shower or too cold...

We are on day 4 of them currently.  If Monday they are still there another call to the doctor.

  • For years growing up I got them from the cold too. It was soo annoying since the doctor couldn't tell me why I got them.
