Moving to UAE Al Ain

Hello, I'm taking a job in UAE, Al Ain. I would like to know what life is like for expats. I will be taking a teaching job.
what's your purpose?

Re: Moving to UAE Al Ain

  • Welcome! I lived in the UAE for a year and taught at an international school in Abu Dhabi. Al Ain is more isolated and I've never been there, but some people do seem to like it as it is quieter and less urban than AD or Dubai.

What type of school will you be teaching at? What will you teach? How did you find your job?

It would help to have some specific questions we could answer for you, because I'm not sure what kind of info you're looking for :)

  • I've only visted UAE, and Dubai only, but would totally visit again. Nice place.

  • I've been wanting to respond to this but I don't know much about Al Ain except driving through there once. I do have friends whose husbands commute from Dubai to Al Ain. It's a lot less urban than Dubai.

I'd visit the forums on expatwoman.com to get more advice from those who live there.

  • Thank you ladies, I'm with a program called teachaway. I've met others in this program but no one in this country. I just wanted another perspective. I am also interviewing for the colleges in the city(Dubai).  I have been told that Al Ain is more reserved or family centered?

I'd say Dubai is very family oriented but it is much more liberal/Western than the other emirates, like Sharjah, Ajman, and Al Ain. I love Dubai and like it more and more the longer I've been here and the more I've settled in, made friends, found things to do.

Again, I recommend visiting expatwoman.com since it's a forum dedicated to the UAE and recently expanded to other regions of the ME.

    Good luck on your interviews!

  • Just a heads up, teach away places teachers in UAE public schools and from what I've heard they're pretty awful--very disrespectful, out of control kids and such. I would strongly suggest looking into international schools if you want to teach in the UAE.
  • Thanks ladies!

  • I just remembered I know a guy who is in Al Ain. His wife is a teacher with teach away. I could put you in touch if you like--just PM me your email address :)
  • Welcome to The SANDBOX!! I live in Al Ain and I also teach for the Teachaway company. I just returned last night with my husband. Al Ain is a nice place to live if you are not looking for the hustle and bustle of the city life. It is a more family friendly town. We have 3 malls, Al Ain, Al Jimi and Bowadi, that will offer you a variety of clothing and grocery options as well as entertainment. We are nestled between Dubai and Abu Dhabi so getaways are not a problem.

The main thing that you have to remember is that this experience is what you make of it. Everyone's experience is different. Be open, be flexible, be patient, be flexible and be patient.

God's blessings to you and your family as you make this journey to this new land. Enjoy your experience!!!

    Anniversary
