So my ex was one to specify a few weird things that he wanted. Things like the cookware (just a small $100 set) and the dishes (that I picked...he didn't care what they looked like)
Obviously some things are higher priority to replace ASAP, especially with extremely limited funds.
I am wondering if any of you have suggestions for a semi-temporary set of basic cookware and basic dishes (doesn't have to have coffee mugs, just plates and bowls really) that should last a year minimum. At this point, I am not sure I really care type of cookware, as I know how to cook with any type. I have a gas stove.
I am hoping to spend less than $100 on both, and I know that's a tight budget, but I figured if anyone might understand, it'd be you ladies.
Re: Things to be replaced
Can you ask family or friends if anyone has an extra set? Some people might have gotten new sets for Christmas or have some good but used or mismatched dish ware laying around. I got some corian plates from Walmart for like $20. You could also go to goodwill and get some complete sets.
Eta: the corian ones are unbreakable and wear very well
I'm hoping to go tomorrow. The car is down but I should have one tomorrow to do running. I asked around for Christmas, as this was my hope but my aunt misinterpreted it and got me glass bakeware (and you do NOT ask my aunt for reciepts) so its all on me. I honestly didn't think of goodwill...ours usually sucks.
THe Goodwill in my area has pretty good cookware for cheap!
You can also go to Bed, Bath & Beyond and use their 20% off coupons.
Target sometimes has good deals, especially now after Christmas, maybe you can get some Christmas cookware for cheap and just use it as your regular cookware.
They see us rollin'...they be hatin'.
Do you have an IKEA nearby? I got a set of dishes there that I loved and they were only $20. The H got them, though, because they were for our "temporary home" out west that he made into his permanent one.
We also got a cheap set of Chefmate cookware for cheap at Target. Not the best, obviously, but he's still using it without any trouble.
Ditto PP on Goodwill, Target, and BB&B with a coupon.
I also recommend TJMaxx or Ross for housewares. You can usually get name brands for much cheaper.
Good luck!
Thanks everyone, I'll look into those options. Unfortunately IKEA is an hour away, otherwise I'd happily trot there, since I have some of their cooking utensils that have held up well!
Thank you for the chefmate rec, I saw they were cheap, but they felt SO light I got nervous, LOL
Do you have any consignment shops nearby? You may be able to find some dishes and pans there.
I think a small fry, large deep sautee, 3 qt and stock pot would be enough for pans for now too. Unless you cook a lot.
Only clothing ones
It's sad really, LOL. That is what I am going for is those items. Seems like everytime I find a half decent set in my price range it's sold out though. Grrr LOL
Goodwill it up. That's what I did... he's still sittin' at home with my damn microwave...
But really, you can get the basics there and once it's on your shelf it's way less depressing to look at than when you're standing in G-will.
Thanks guys. I did pick up a small set of each dishes and cookware tonight. And actually, I felt better. I use a pot rack to hang my pots and pans from, and seeing them up there instead of what I already think of as "his"...it was actually a good feeling.
