converting from crib to bed
did you go to a toddler bed or a mattress on the floor? if you did a mattress, what size?
we bedshare and right now oliver goes to sleep in his pnp and then comes to bed with us when we go to bed. i'm not sure how to transition him... maybe just start putting him to sleep in our bed?
what would you suggest for grandma's house? he's only there one day a week and sometimes on the weekends but he is crawling in and out of his crib there. i hate to spend money on a toddler bed since he isn't there all the time...
Re: converting from crib to bed
We started with a mattress on the floor. I lay with her until she's alseep (and will do so until we are done traveling for the holidays..so in 2 weeks we'll work on getting her to stay and sleep in her bed w/o me laying with her at first).
That would be my suggestion. Lay him on a mattress, on the floor. Once he's asleep, leave quietly.
When G wakes up in the middle of the night, I just bring her into bed with us. We like her in there though. :-)
No suggestions for grandma's...maybe try a sleeping bag on the floor? Or have him sleep in your parents bed?
We never did a mattress on the floor because I felt like it's too cold down there in the winter time. Katen has a queen size mattress and Ana (for now) has a twin size. We didn't do a toddler bed, aside from a month or so when we converted our crib to a toddler bed because to be honest, Ana is already too big for it. (she's almonst as tall as our 4 year old.)
With both girls we just did it cold turkey and never really had a problem. I'd probably put him in his bed instead of the pack and play at the beginning of the night. We use a body pillow placed under the fitted sheet at the edge of the bed so that the girls don't roll out. Even if they do, they don't get hurt.
One of the things that the baby whisperer says is to "start as you plan to continue," so we decided on the way we're comfortable with having the girls fall asleep at night and went with that from the start.
At grandma's house I'd put him in a regular bed and again use pillows on the edge or on the floor.
We moved Reese cold turkey. Well, sort of cold turkey. We converted her crib to a toddler bed, where she's still sleeping. She was over 2 when we converted it and she never tried crawling out of it.
I'm going to file away mrsreem's body pillow under the sheet idea for when we convert her toddler bed to a full sized.
We moved Ella to a toddler bed at 20 months and she is still sleeping there. The transition was a bit difficult in that she would get out of bed a lot and cry at the door but after a few nights of tough love she learned that she needed to stay in bed.
We have a similar issue with not having a good place for her to sleep at Grandma's so she usually just sleeps in bed with my mom and boots my dad to the couch
Not ideal, but for how little she sleeps there it works out. They have tried to get her to sleep in her own bed there but she cries and they cave. She does sleep in a regular full sized bed at the sitter and does just fine. Good luck!
