We have a ton of clothes that we just need to get out of our house. We usually hang on to them for my parents annual garage sale but with baby#2 on the way, our little 2 bedroom house is busting at the seams and I just want these totes outta here! I have never donated clothes before though, so I am not sure how to do it. I was thinking probably Goodwill but are there other places? Its mostly little girls clothes/toys. Here is what I was wondering:
1: Is there a Goodwill that is easier to donate to?
2: Do they need to be in boxes, totes, bags? I have them in totes right now but would like to keep them...
3. Is there anything they don't take? They are all in great condition, we tossed all stained or really worn clothes. Do they look through things first?
4. If there is a better place to go to, what is it and what are their hours/location?
Thanks!
Re: Donating clothes help :)
I don't know hours or locations, but you could always try women's shelters, especially with the clothing. However, it might not be the most convenient choice.
From my experience with the Ankeny Goodwill, you just take your bags to the back dock. They'll ask you what's in the bag. You don't have to be specific; little girl clothing and toddler toys is fine. If you separate out the toys from the clothing, it makes their job easier and your donation time faster. They don't look through anything at the time of your donation. You are given a donation thingy for your taxes that you fill out.
I prefer to donate to the DAV (disabled American veterans) because its a cause near and dear to my heart. You can call and they will schedule a pick up so all you have to do is put the stuff on the front step.
If you donate to Goodwill and want your totes back just tell them and they will usually just dump the clothes in a cart and give your totes back.
Either way they don't usually go through them, just take your word on what is in them.
