My DH and I are having a hard time deciding on which area we want to live. It's not that we don't agree, we're just having a little trouble making up our minds. It's just us and a small dog right now. We would like to start a family in the next two to three years (one or two kids). We plan to stay in this home for 10+ years. Maybe forever.
What would you pick?
Town A: Where we currently live: Crime: Virtually None. Schools: Best in the State. Location from our jobs: Excellent. We love the location. Homes: Old and outdated,(1960's) and expensive. Area: Lots of old money, old people and kind of snooty.
Town B. Next To Town A
Crime: A little, but no violent crime. Schools: Excellent. Location from our jobs: Excellent. Homes: Old, small, some outdated, very expensive but lots of character. Area: New & old money, yuppy, quite snooty, but very much "the place to be." Great walkable downtown.
Town C. Other side of Town A
Crime: Some Schools: Okay Location from our jobs: Great Homes: Some old and outdated, but huge beautiful homes. Some are very nice, but a little cookie cutter. You can get a lot for your money. Area: Very Diverse, Very snooty. Very much a show of who has more then their neighbor. But, a lot of people in the area share the same values and religion as myself and DH.
Town
Next to Town B
Crime: Some. Violent crime, maybe once in every 10 years. Schools: Excellent. Location from out jobs: Great Homes: New and old and lots of inventory. Still more are outdated and expensive. Area: Very diverse, mix of upper and middle class. Mostly friendly people.
Town E. Next to Town C
Crime: A little, but no violent crime. Schools: Excellent Location from our Jobs: Okay Homes: Very nice, but very cookie cutter, and some are outdated. Area: New money, Not at all diverse. A little snooty. If we moved here we maybe the only family that practices our religion. But a nice walkable downtown, but not nearly as nice as Town B's downtown.
Town F. A Few Towns Over.
Crime: Some. Schools: Great Location from out jobs: Good Homes: Beautiful, updated and you can get a lot more for your money. But a little bit cookie cutter. Area: A mix of rich and poor. A little diverse. Up and coming but it's still a growing area.
ETA: On an old Mac, messing up paragraphs. Sorry.
Re: Poll: What town would you choose? A little long.
This is too confusing.
I'd pick B or D because I don't care about crime or schools, but I do value diversity and I prefer older smaller homes. I don't want a big house. And I don't like snooty people.
You didn't describe yourself and what you and your husband want. Personally, my husband and I wanted to be in a neighborhood with people like us, meaning families with young children or couples that will likely have children soon. So we moved to a new home in a neighborhood where everyone chose to build their home because they wanted to stay in this home for a long time. Almost everyone in our neighborhood is a couple in their 30s with young children. We do not have kids yet but plan to soon. We love it here and are very happy.
Bottom line - figure out YOUR priorities first.
I'd pick B, F or A.
Schools matter if you have kids. Period.
