My husband and I are signing the papers for our first home on Friday.
Other than packing what do we need to do between now and then? All inspection are done and came back good.
What kinds of things do we need to purchase... we have the basics since we have lived in apartments for several years.
Is there anything we may have forgotten to do?
Re: 1st home
I did a ton of cleaning in the new house before I put anything away -- I cleaned out every drawer and used shelf liner everywhere. So, I wish I'd just gone ahead and spent a small fortune on cleaning products and shelf liner instead of making several trips to Lowe's.
And ditto PP about setting up the utilities. We called 3 days in advance and had to pay a little extra to get our electricity hooked up that fast, and had to live without internet for a couple of days because they couldn't come that quickly. I had just assumed it wouldn't be a problem, but now I wished I'd called earlier.
Congrats!
RIP Dr. Irving Fishman - 10/1/19-7/25/10 - thank you for holding on for me.
You made my wedding day complete.
- Set up utilities (hydro, gas, water), cable, internet, telephone, and if you have a rented water heater or anything you'll need to look into getting that switched to your name (not sure how this works, we own our water heater and don't have a softener)
- Change your address with the post office, your bank(s), any magazine subscriptions, the government(s), your cell phone provider
Our municipality had a good list of all the people we should be contacting when we moved - see if your city does as well.
- You'll need to buy outdoor garbage/recycling containers, a broom, shovel, sidewalk salt
- Get lots of paper towel, a variety of cleaners, shelf paper, garbage bags, and disposable plates/cutlery (for the first few days), light bulbs
