What are your crafty resolutions for 2012?

What do you want to do, learn, try, etc. when it comes to crafting in 2012?

For me:

~Set up a permanent crafting space.  Sounds simple enough, but what I REALLY have to do is decide what we will use the rooms in our house for and then I will know what I have to work with (we moved in September and I am still a bit undecided as to the "final" placement of some rooms).

~Sew up some of the patterns I purchased in 2011.  In addition to becoming a fabric hoarder, I am becomming a pattern hoarder.  I really need to sew some of these beautiful patterns up!

~This last one is a craft/decor mix.  I would like to make this house more of our "home" by making some decorating decisions.  Basic beige walls have GOT to go and some window treatments need to be made (blinds are great, but we need some softness).

Re: What are your crafty resolutions for 2012?

  • To move beyond basic scarves amd hats on the knifty knitter. Specifically socks and some clothing items.
  • get my craft area back in order. It's been turned into the dumping ground for everything without a real place to go in our house. That's on the schedule for the next two weekends

I am REALLY behind on my scrapbooks, I need to put the finishing touch on 08! and my goal is to get 09 done and 10 started at the very least, if not done as well

work on a couple smaller sewing projects

  • - learn to sew

    - plan the craft loft for the new house

    - make cards to send to my friend who is deploying to Afghanistan this year

    - keep up with the blog

  • I also need to find my own crafting area, but we will be moving into a bigger place in March.

I also want to start getting ahead on certain projects so that I can start putting some aside for that "last minute gift" and don't have to run to the store to get some generic item. (I'm a big craft gifter and always feel bad when I do this... well at least when I'm gifter to the ladies in my family because I LOVE to make jewelry)

I would also like to start attending more craft fairs and conventions. Maybe even start showcasing some of my crafts. However, this is rather ambitious at this point.

The biggest one is probably spending minimizing the extra money spent on stuff that I don't actually need to craft with and then just sits there until I can figure it out.

  • Keep up with P's scrapbook. I need to finish up her Christmas and 3 month photo shoot and then I will be caught up.

Try not to buy any more money on crafts, use what I have.

  • My biggest one is not to purchase any new materials (fabric, yarn) until I make a big dent in my WIPs.  Exceptions are for taking classes of course Wink.  Part of my WIPs includes hemming about 7 pairs of pants for H (He needs shorter than 30 inch inseam).  He has threatened to send them to his mom if I don't get on it fast!

Another is to better organize my craft room and supplies.  I'd like to invest in more item-specific clear storage containers.  When Nana passed (miss her always), I inherited all of her sewing stuff, but she stored everything in little Christmas tins and I have the darndest time remembering which tin has bobbins, needles, etc.

We are also going to start our plans for finishing the basement this year, which will have a playroom (for future little ones) and my craft room, so I am excited to start planning that out.  Right now it is in one of the spare bedrooms so I haven't done much of anything to personalize the space since it was always intended as a temporary location.

  • *ORGANIZE!!!!!! I have a grand total of 5 square inches of viewable table top! and DH is NOT happy that I have started putting my stuff on his desk. (I shared enough space for a desk with dh in this room)

*Get started on baby stuff  (/extending the live of my normal person clothes)  =) I have a niece or nephew arriving in March, then mine in July, so I have a boat load of stuff to start making.

*Downsize my craft allowance =( and get better about managing my time

  • DH is thinking about putting up a shed in the backyard to store all of our outdoor stuff in winter. I'm crossing my fingers this happens to I can claim out back room in the basement as my craft room and finally stop cutting everything on the floor! I'm lucky to have a craft area now, but its really tiny.

  • Short term

    - Finish 2 pirate costumes by Feb 29th (luckily, DH's is 3/4 done), mine is all new.  I'm doing a lot of pattern modification for mine, so this should be interesting.

    Long term:

    - Learn to fit a pattern to my D cups!

    - Start Christmas sewing in October.  Or now.

  • To install over head shelves in my craft studio.

Add more clear plastic storage units to contain my notions.

Make loads of matching dresses for my girls.

Get a new picture program to use on my Mac. So I can pip without H's help.

  • ~My goal is to actually craft something every week. I haven't been very crafty in the last year and I am hoping to change that.  I have to book cases set up in my dining room with all of my paper crafting stuff on it and I am hoping it will help me use all of my items and actually craft with it.

~I would like to complete a quilt this year. I took some classes but never actually did anything with it.  I really want to give it a shot and learn how to do it.

~Make my head board for my bed.  I have an idea and plan on doing it.

  • I need to organize and get rid of a ton of stuff that I am never going to use.

Not buy anything unless I need it to finish a WIP.

Make photo albums for both of my girls.  I am not going to attempt to scrapbook and make it fancy just pictures in a book with notes/captions.

  • Finish setting up my craft room (#1).

Get all of my stuff organized (throughout the house, not just the craft things)

    Learn to sew

Get super crafty with the Cricut.

Finish my recipe box (that I started over the summer)

*I created a blog this morning so that I can talk about all of my ideas. I figured if I make one, and have people actually subscribe to it, it will hold me more accountable to actually completing all of my ideas.*

  • I feel like I could copy most of above and say 'this!'. lol

I definitely need to finish what I started and wade through my studio and supplies that are spread throughout the house and garage.

I need to be ruthless and purge and pack, because we really need to sell our house and move closer to DH's work...whether they stay in CA or move across the country ....whatever his company decides they want the west coast office to do.

I have several projects that I need to finish ASAP, and some that I need to commit to finishing or dismantling and either getting rid of or repurposing the parts.

I have some things that I really want to work on, like dyeing and quilting, but I need to focus on organization and moving first.

I do want to make it a habit to work on something/anything on a regular basis, even if I have a job (like our upcoming tutu for a teenager in a competition next month)...the act of working on something is relaxing and helps me be more focused in other areas of my life.  Plus, working on something that I find fun or challenging helps balance jobs that I find repetitive and kind of boring (like sewing a white tutu-lol).

  • This is from my 101 goals in 1001 days list:

    •  quite a few of the goals involve using up my yarn/scrapbooking/fabric stash to cut down on space I'm using in our guest/craft room
    • a couple of leftover wedding projects, including a wedding card scrapbook and a shadowbox of mementos
    • learn how to crochet
    • knit a pair of socks (really intimidated by that for some reason)
    • make a t-shirt quilt from my favorite college shirts
  • -Get better at crocheting. Teach myself how to read the patterns and branch out from a basic beanie.

-Get better at sewing clothes. I have made shorts. Which is about all I can do lol.

-A not-so-crafty resolution (that ties in) is to get debt paid off and move. So I can get my own space to set up my stuff.

-Another not-so-crafty resolution (that does tie in as well) is to not procrastinate so much. I busted my hump to finish Christmas presents this year and realized (2 days later) that I forgot one half-finished project.

  • Learn all the uses of my Cricut, other than cutting out letters and shapes for scrapbooking and finish my scrapbooks in less than a month, rather than a year.

  • Craft more!!

I want to get my craft area in a better order so I can use it more.  It's not a big space so I really need to have it well organized.

Sew more.  I have a lot of fabric that I bought for specific projects but never made.

    Learn to crochet.
