Moving to Story City/Ames

DH accepted a job in Ames and starts January 16th. Hopefully this week we find out if my job can be relocated to our Ames office. We have picked out a house in Story City, so now we are waiting on my job and our house to sell. Anyway, if/when we get to the Story City/Ames area, does anyone have any recs for daycare and/or preschool? I think we're going to have a hard time finding a daycare that is any better than our in-home we have now. I wish we could take her with us!

  • We live in Ames but Wesley's daycare is in Boone, but I know someone who used and loves Play and Learn children's center in East Ames. I also know someone who liked Formstive Years in West Ames as well.

  • Welcome to the Ames area!  I'm afraid that I have no daycare recs as I'm not a mom...but hope you find a great one and all the home stuff settles quickly. :)
  • Story City-my old stomping grounds. lol! I grew up there.  Let me ask around-some of my friends from high school had moms who did in home daycare.

  • I'm in Ames.  We haven't had to use daycare up to this point.  I'm starting a new job on the 16th too, so we're looking for the first time.  We used care.com and are doing a nanny.  I have friends who use ACPC and I think we're looking at getting on the waitlist there, I know they don't have openings till fall and the youngest age is 18 months.  I've also heard good things about Formative Years in on the west side.  I didn't have much luck finding an in-home that fit our needs (2 kids, part-time).  I have some friends in Story City, but I know they used a relative in Ames.

Good luck and welcome to Ames!

  • I didn't read well the first time, I guess.  I see you asked about preschool too, so I have some more recommendations.  I have 2 friends that work at Ames Christian School.  Their preschool program also includes a childcare option.  I would definitely recommend that.  I have also heard wonderful things about St. Cecilia's, but don't personally have any experiences there.
