Late period and BFN?

Trying not to get ahead of myself here, but I figured I'd ask you lovely ladies since you all might have some insight.  I stopped taking my BCP in October, got my first period only a day later than normal with no abnormalities the first time after stopping, but now I'm three days late.  I took a test the day AF was supposed to show and the morning of NYE (the second day I was late) to see if there was a chance I was KU (which would have changed my drinking plans a bit for that night obv).  They both came up negative.  I didn't think there was any chance I could be since DH and I missed our timing this month due to him being out of town.  We did the deed three days after my projected ovulation date and now I'm paranoid that maybe my date was way off and now I might be KU (which would make me a horrible mom-to-be since I had several glasses of champage on NYE).  Anyone else have any delays and BFNs like this before?  Sorry for what is probably premature panicking!

Re: Late period and BFN?

  • There's a chance, i would say test again in a couple of days. I know they said you should do the deed 2 days prior to ovulation, the day of ovulation, and the day after ovulation. To make you feel better, 2 weeks after I found out I was pregnant I had a girls night out and had a few glasses of white wine and a few shots lol. When I found out I was KU I think I was around 3 weeks pregnant. Not to worry and I hope you get your BFP (well if you're hoping for one hehehe).

CORRECTION: I just reread my post and I said 2 weeks after, I meant 2 weeks BEFORE I found out I was pregnant. I would never drink after finding out Im pregnant lmao. Sorry I was not paying attention to what I was typing (Im baby drunk lol)

  • Ditto what Junie said. Test again if you don't get AF in a few days and relax on the champagne worries, you're fine. Good luck!
  • Do you know for sure when you O'd? Bc if you're not absolutely sure (if you didn't use opks or temp tracking) then you could have O'd later than you thought, which would of course make your period arrive later than you thought it would.
  • Ditto the other ladies.  And don't worry about the alcohol.  I had 3-4 drinks the day before my BFP and the baby is fine (even if I'm not Smile)

  • I agree - you could have O'd later, which would make AF late.  I would retest in a few days if the witch doesn't show.

  • I didn't find out until I was almost 7 weeks.  I didn't expect to get pregnant for awhile since I was told for many years that I had scarring on my ovaries which would make it difficult, so I didn't even realize I was late because I wasn't paying attention.  And I had drank a ton at a friend's wedding only a week or two before.  My dr. said not to worry because many people find out they are pregnant after a few weeks and have drank.

  • I know lots of people (including myself) who drank before they knew and everything is fine.  The placenta doesn't come into affect until you are about 6 weeks along, which is usually when you would first figure out your pregnant (taking out the super sensitive HPTs and people who are doing IF treatment).  There is a reason our bodies do what they do!

  • It can take a few months for your body to regulate after coming off BCP, so it's quite possible that you ovulated later than you thought.  If you aren't charting/using OPK's there's really no know.  If AF is not here in a few days you should test again.

If you got a BFN I wouldn't give a second thought to drinking - even if a BFP was in the next few days you'd be at such an early stage that it wouldn't matter.

  • Thanks all for the info and reassurances (esp with the drinking).  I had been assuming that my periods would be pretty regulated even after stopping since the first one I got after stopping was only a day later than normal, but maybe that's not the case.  I haven't been charting or anything yet since DH and I aren't seriously trying so I guess there isn't any way for me to know for sure yet.  I figure I'll test again on Wed since that will be about a week late from my anticipated arrival of AF.  I'm not sure what I want the result to be honestly.  DH and I are obv ready to start trying, but there's just so much going on right now that I'm a bit torn.  I got offered what could possibly be my dream job but getting KU would put throw a wrench into those plans.  But DH and I have talked about definitly wanting to get KU this year, so it wouldn't be an unwelcome thing.  Timing is just seriously a b***h right now.  If only I'd gotten this offer a few months earlier, I wouldn't be having this indecisiveness.  Well, I should stop getting ahead of myself since I don't know what's what yet, but at least I feel a bit better about my NYE indulgences, thanks!
  • Well, no need to test again it looks like.  AF showed up this morning, which now leaves me with cycles of 28 days and 34 days.  We'll see what happens this month.
