Info on USAA Mortgage and Movers Advantage

Hey all. Been a looooooong time. The H and I are house hunting. For the first time in our relationship (between school and deployments) we both have career positions so we've decided to take the next step and buy a house. We've been looking for awhile but are getting more serious and have actually gotten pre-approved. We went through our bank to start with but have found that USAA has a significant difference with their rate so we're going to get pre-approved with them as well (we're told if we do both within 30 days it won't mess with our credit score). When doing research on USAA, I was reading about their movers advantage. I also saw that you can get an agent through them.

Has anyone used this? What experiences have you had - good or bad? We have been shown houses through an agent but haven't signed any sort of agreement. We're not 100% happy with this guy so we're interested in what USAA has to offer as far as an agent goes.

Any information would be great. I know I don't post much at all but I always know that I can get good info on this board. It's fun to watch all the exciting things happening in everyone lives - of course I still lurk. ;)

Re: Info on USAA Mortgage and Movers Advantage

  • Hey there!

H and I used USAA for the entire process of finding-- and buying-- our house. We actually found our agent separately (she's the step-mom of a friend) but she is a USAA-approved realtor.

The advantage of using the realtors they direct you to is that they deal with USAA all the time. There will be no confusion with USAA's policies or the closing period. Our realtor was very knowledgeable and  we loved her! I would totally recommend looking into their people if you aren't 100% happy with the one you have now.

I want to say USAA also gave us some kind of cash incentive for using one of their approved realtors, but don't quote me on that. Also, it may have been a limited-time promotion or something.

Good luck with the house hunt!

  • We used them last June to find a house.  We had an issue with our first agent not staying in contact with us so we switched agents through them and everything else was great.  You do get a price incentive for using it.  It depends on how much you actually bought your house for as to how much you get.
  • We used it for our first home purchase and our agent was really annoying (and still is) Fortunately, we had already picked out our house and didn't require much from her.

We're about to buy again and will definitely use the program again, but this time we really need the help of a good, experienced agent so we already know we will request a new one if we're not happy with the first one assigned.

  • I used it and had a great experience. We got a weekly call from Movers Advantage consultants to make sure everything was going smoothly with the REA they recommended. We had some last minute issues with the loan POC at USAA that led to lots of scrambling and some really heated phone calls, but we got it figured out in the end. I would use both services from USAA again.
