Mine was pretty good despite a few hiccups. SO and I headed to Detroit to see the Red Wings game.
First, we tried to get to the restaurant and put the address into the GPS and it took us to a field.
Second, we had to stay a town over because all the hotels were booked but we were fine with taking a cab. It was $25 to get down there but after the game when we asked how much it would be back and the driver said since it is NYE it would be $50-$100 (it is a 10 mile trip). We ended up calling a close friend of SOs and he came to get us and bring us back so it worked out.
Third, we ended up pretty much sober by the end of the night despite taking a cab because the lines were so darn long to the bathroom that drinking beer during the game wasn't worth it.
We were going to hit the bars up after the game but SO said that he really just wanted to spend the rest of the evening alone with me and not elbow to elbow in a crowded, rowdy bar so we went back to the hotel and ordered pizza and watched the ball drop. It was nice to wake up early in the morning and not be hungover. ![]()
On the way home we stopped at IKEA, for the win.

Re: So how was NYE?
Glad you had a great time!
Mine was pretty low-key, but so much fun! L and I had my BFF and her hubby over to play video/board games. We watched the ball drop at Midnight and turned in for the night.
Mine was really, really nice!
Met up with an old friend and his wife -- and their new baby -- for dinner. It was great to catch up with them and to meet their daughter, who is the prettiest infant I've ever seen. Very smiley with lots of red hair.
BF had his radio show from 8-11, and then swung by my place afterwards. We had a glass of wine, toasted the new year, then headed to his friends' house for a party. Stayed there a while, then came back and watched The Twilight Zone marathon for wayyyyy too long. I think I went to bed at 6; he came in at at 8. Needless to say, we slept yesterday away. Headed to the diner for "breakfast" around 5. He left my place at 9. It was a lovely, low-key time. There was no one else I'd have rather spent the new year with.
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
It was really great! We went to a co-worker/friend's house to start the night for appetizers, drinks, and some board games. We left there around 9:30 to meet our other friends at the cozy little dive bar to witness some of the most horrific and entertaining karaoke known to man. They passed around champagne a little before midnight and the entire bar watched the ball drop and counted down. At midnight, I shared my first New Year's kiss with BF.
I now truly understand what a "foot popping kiss" is. Because had I been sober enough to actually stand on one foot...I totally would have.
It is amazing to me that in almost 28 years, that was one of the first times I've actually felt an intense love through a kiss. It was amazing. It felt like we were the only people in the room.
/swoon
After that, we went to our friends' apartment to share a bottle of champange and visit.
We got home around 2...but didn't go to bed until 3:30
Ours was a lot of fun! We go to a friends house for a 'festival of eats' - everyone brings super awesome food and we all eat till we are all stuffed and can't move.
We played Scene It (guys vs girls) and then hours and hours of Rock Band, finally got home around 4:30am. BF and I don't drink, so we both felt great yesterday too after sleeping in late!
No complaints here. F and I had a nice dinner at home, we watched the ball drop on TV and then watched fireworks from my window.
The great thing about the dinner at home is that I made mussels. The next day, I met his parents for the first time on Skype and when he told them I made mussels the night before they were so excited and immediately began inviting me to come visit (apparently mussels are a big deal there, so me cooking mussels, combined with me being Catholic = instant in with his parents.)
Mine was eh.
I help out a friend of mine's business and do Karaoke hosting and event DJing on the side. So, of course I had a show, since NYE is one of our BUSIEST times.
My show was in a home for a private party this year. I kinda felt like the pauper to the princess in this house. We're talking hardwood floors, gorgeous house and the room they had me in, I was across from a GRAND PIANO. not kidding. The hostess to the party was the type to micromanage, which ups my stress level through the roof. Basically, if she didn't personally like the song, she wanted an immediate change, even if her friends were all dancing and happy. SO NOT COOL.
However, she tipped extremely well. Like as in a 42% tip. I about crapped myself. Driving home sucked though, I had to use a company vehicle and it was a midsized van that fishtailed easily, and wouldn't ya know we got snow? LOL. So I drove from 3am-4am to get home and was petrified most of the time that something would happen.
This sounds really nice. How cute.
Mine was quiet but that's okay
I'm jealous of the foot popping kiss, though!
