Cringe---a guest on the Today Show is talking about Etsy
"It's not time consuming at all. You just need a little initiative to get started and then it runs itself."
"It's an easy way to make money."
"You can easily make enough money to quit your day job if you want to!"
Sigh....how many people do you think are going to believe this nonsense and open up a shop today?
(She was not just talking about etsy when it comes to making money. You will all be glad to know that she also thinks that tutoring is a "simple way" to earn some extra dollars--clearly she has never sat at a table with a struggling student.)

Re: Cringe---a guest on the Today Show is talking about Etsy
oh geez! That is what I tell people when they suggest that I sell some of the things that I have made. It is a lot of work to sell things and the market is flooded with the things that I make. It takes a lot of time and dedication to make a living selling things.

The BEST part---she was just on in another segment talking about how to "fight fair" with your spouse.
Apparently she is an "expert" in many areas of life.
Wonder if she'll be offering up medical advice with Hoda and Kathy Lee? (but I'll not be watching as the two of them drive me crazy).

I get asked about selling my stuff all the time. I looked into it, then said it was not worth the hassle. I sew stuff for friends all the time, and if you ask me, I sew something for you.
At least that explains some of the crap on there.
I'm guessing she doesn't actually have her own etsy store?
I sell some of my stuff at a local shop, and its A LOT of work. I love it, and I do make money doing it, but if you work it out by the hour, its probably not a lot of money. I just really like to do it and it gives me a special little thrill to know that a stranger is wearing/using something I made by hand :-) The only way I could quit my "day job" would be if I also put my three kids in daycare full time. Or if I stopped sleeping.

Ok, just read the terms of use for crafts posts. Didn't mean to advertise... sorry. won't happen again. That, kids, is why you read the instructions first!
MrsSRDudley, you can edit that post to remove your Etsy store so you don't get banned. (Which they could do since it's a violation of the TOS.)
I had an Etsy store. We do craft shows (just wrapped up year 2 of those) and we did the Farmer's Market as well. It was more work to do the Etsy thing (and more money, since you pay per listing, then there's paypal fees, etc.) and so we don't really do the Etsy thing anymore. We operate through a FB page to do online sales and people can email us to ask for things.
