Maybe it was just the town I grew up in (where there wasn't much to do and I wasn't a partier), but Blockbuster was so crowded almost every Friday and Saturday night. We'd go as a family and pick out movies or I'd go w/ my BFF frequently; almost every weekend...We almost always ran into friends doing the same thing. It sounds silly, but it was such a part of my childhood/teenage years, I am kind of sad my kids won't know what it's like to walk up and down the aisles looking for a good movie to watch!
Ok, that sounds really silly now that I'm reading it...but maybe it's because I'm such a "visual" person that I really enjoyed looking for movies that way.
Re: S/O Redbox...I miss Blockbuster
Totally agree. I feel that way about shopping a lot. The fabric of clothes can look very different online than in person.
Ditto this!
Ya know, J was just talking about this the other day. He mentioned the same thing - how he misses just walking up and down the aisles looking for something good to rent. Granted, I had to bring up the fact that we just don't have the time to do that anyway given our two kids but I guess that's not what he wanted to hear. :-/
We have a Blockbuster very close to us, but the rental fees are just ridiculous and J got pissed about something they did/said/whatever a couple years ago and just cancelled our account. We make do with Redbox and Netflix. Though Netflix my be cancelled by next month... we're STILL unsure.
You know what I miss? Actually WANTING to see movies. Tonight my mom saw some preview on TV for some movie that I have zero interest in (that's beside the point here) and she was all like wow that's gonna be GOOD - I want to SEE THAT! and I thought to myself - gee, I can't even recall the last time I got excited about a movie... like really feeling that I WANT to see one particular one (not including Harry Potter - that's a given, duh). Sometimes I see a preview or commercial for one, or read a review or someone mentions one and I think, yeah, sure that'd be interesting. But then I forget about it five minutes later and six months later I see another mention of it and I'm like wow.. ya know I recall that title... I'd watch that. But then I never do. I have yet to see: Bridesmaids, Horrible Bosses, Bad Teacher, Crazy Stupid Love, Moneyball, The Help, Water for Elephants, Our Idiot Brother, Super8, Tree of Life, The Change Up. and I totally just browsed the Redbox site to get THOSE titles. Anyone else feel this way?
I miss looking for movies too! It was always fun to go pick out movies when I was little (although it was usually at a local rental shop, not Blockbuster).
I do like trying old movies on netflix and then being able to stop them if they're awful and not feel bad about it. If I rented a movie from BB in the past and hated it, I would feel guilty not finishing it since I paid for it.
