Maui Must-do's??

We're going to Maui in February.  What do you consider must-do's while there?  We have 8 days =)  Thanks!

Re: Maui Must-do's??

  • Our must-do's:

     - sunrise from Haleakala (do the first or second morning so you'll naturally be up early anyway)

    - Road to Hana (it seems to be loved or hated by people; we absolutely loved it)

    - drive West Maui - stop at the blowhole, the Olivine Pools (don't recommend you climb down to them though - we had a really scary experience doing so)

    - drive South Maui and "beach hop" - Ahihi Cove, Big Beach, Secret Cove Beach, La Perouse Bay

    - shave ice at Ululani's - you won't find better on the island!

    - dinner at Merriman's - make a reservation to sit along the railing and arrive 30 minutes or so before sunset; the views are fantastic and the food is delicious!  pricey but worth it

    - we loved surf lessons with Goofy Foot

    - had a great experience with Scotch Mist and their sunset champagne cruise.  we had a total of 8 people on our boat, so no huge tour groups - a big plus for us

    * we didn't do this because we were on Maui in July, but Feb. should give you some good whale watching, so I'd recommend that as well!

  • in addition to the must do's outline above (great suggestions, by the way!), i'd add:

    -helicopter tour of west maui

-whale watching (i think winter is the best time for this)

    -luau

    -vist front street

  • - A snorkeling tour of the Molikini Crater and swimming with the sea turtles at Turtle Town.  We did this with Trilogy and it was awesome!  It also includes a continential breakfast and a good bbq lunch.

    - Have breakfast at the Kihei Cafe, the food is delicious, a must in our books!

    - Check out Lahaina, and definitely have shave ice at Ululani's, it's the best like pp said.

    - Rent bikes and tour around.

All of the above (in fact much of what we did was recommended by girlinchicago) but I would also recommend Alli Kula Lavender Farm (it's in Upcountry, less than a 30 minute drive from the base of Haleakala). The grounds are stunning and you can either go on a walking tour or peruse on your own.  Even my H who isn't really a plant person really enjoyed our visit.

Have a great time, it's an amazing place!

  • Bike down Haleakala.... so much fun!

    Visit the Tedeschi Winery

Eat at Kimo's in Lahaina  for dinner (get the fresh fish and prime rib - yummm) and the Gazebo restaurant at the Napili Shore Reosrt for breakfast (best pancakes you will ever eat)

Get the Maui Revealed Book - it was our bible when we were there.

  • DH and I were there for our Honeymoon, and all the recommendations above are great suggestions.

We live in the midwest, so we ate at Roy's and really enjoyed it. Great food.

eta: We also used Maui Revealed- AWESOME book.

eta #2: We also took a day trip to Lanai- very easy to do via boat or airplane.
