Winger

Per your request on ML, I am here to discuss the fine art of slow cooking.

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

Re: Winger

  • So you made the dumplings in the slow cooker? I have only ever done the baking method. how were they? Mushy? Actually mushy is probably better. I think apple dumplings should be mushy.

I am going to pull together some of my favorites here for you.

  • I actually didn't have any, because I don't have much of a sweet tooth!  I'm the weirdest -- someone who loves to bake, but hates eating what she bakes.  Everyone else really liked them, though.  They were mushy, but yummy -- and best with vanilla ice cream.

My meatballs turned out really well on Saturday, too.

What kinds of things do you most like to toss in the crock pot?  Lemme know, and I'll link you to my favorite recipes, too!

Also, hi!  How were your holidays?

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

  • OK, I love this recipe, but I alter it. I use tenderloin instead of roast and I cook on high about 5-6 hours (it's juicier that way). I serve it over egg noodles. Also, I add more water to it to make more sauce then recommended. The sauce is divine.

I love this for Indian food because it's easy peasy and yummy. I could not find tandoori masala so I just added extra garam masala.

This is my big standby, although, I do recommend adding your own seasoning etc. This is just the starter.

This is very flavorful and easy. My H is Cajun and craves Jambalaya but that shiit is hard to make, yo. This makes it easy

This one gets circulated around RE a lot. I love it

I also make taco soup in the crock pot

    1 pound ground meat, cooked

    1 package taco seasoning

    1 package ranch dry seasoning

    1 bag frozen corn

    2 cans black beans

    2 cans kidney beans

    1 can diced tomato

    1 small can tomato sauce

fill it up with some beef broth

    slow cook all day

top with cheese, sour cream, chips, etc.

  • Oh hi!

My holidays were mostly pretty wonderful. We had some family drama with my SIL who we went to see in LA, but overall we had a wonderful vacation there (almost 2 weeks in LA) and a relaxing time at home.

Now we are on to home projects (new entertainment systems and gutting/redoing our master bath and bed) and so I am excited about all that fun.

How was your holiday? Did your beau properly spoil you?

  • oh and I have to run to a meeting, but I will be back.
  • This soup is so, so, so yummy.  I use an immersion blender to make it nice and thick:  http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2008/11/salsa-chicken-and-black-bean-soup.html

I also love this recipe for a whole chicken.  It's delightful and makes great chicken salad for leftovers:  http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2008/05/lemon-and-herb-crockpot-roasted-chicken.html

This cranberry pork roast is to die for.  I make garlic mashed potatoes to accompany it.  Super yum.  http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2009/02/crockpot-cranberry-pork-roast.html

Those are my top three, but I've made a ton of things from that blog, and they're all wonderful.

Now.  My holidays.  They were great!  BF got me a bass!  I've been saying for ages that I want to learn how to play, and he got tired of hearing it and not seeing me act on it -- so he got me a Fender and an amp.  I'm really, really excited -- and a little terrified.  Because now I actually have to learn how to play this thing, which is a lot harder than talking about how cool it would be if i could play it.   We had a lovely, quiet-ish NYE: mostly alone time, but we did head over to his friends' party for a few hours.  It was great.  He's great.  I'm all giggly and goofy and weak in the knees.

  • Dagger is learning to play the guitar. Maybe you can learn together!

That's really awesome that he got you a bass. You probably look badass with it. You are tall right? Hezz, Noisy and I have this band called Giant Robot Army. You should totally join.

My height is something of debate on the Nest.  People seem to think that I'm tall.  I'm actually only 5'3", but I have good posture and wear heels a lot, so I've fooled many people.  I hope this doesn't disqualify me from Giant Robot Army.  I can wear stilts.

This is it.  I think it's badass.  I am terrified of it.  But one day I will look cool with it.

  • Very nice! I like the skulls, especially the one on the fret board.

I didn't realize you were short. You probably have to wear your special Halloween boots to join our army.

  • i LOVE the one on the fret board!  The other is fine, maybe a little showy.  He acknowledged this and said it can be removed if I so choose.  I'm gonna hang out with it a bit before I decide.

Yes, I am a wee one.  The guy is a full foot taller than me!  I will happily wear my boots in order to be in the army.  I can also make my hair very big for some added inches.

  • Ahhhh, a dilemma of skulls. I must admit that skulls are big in our house. We have also taught our son to sing the opening guitar part of Detroit Rock City by KISS. He does it quite well.
  • I do like skulls.  My current bag is adorned with them.

    Your son sounds pretty rad.

  • He is, except when he gives me concussions. He has been a bit of a terror the past couple of days.

My new favorite thing he does is say "bye bye cow". We rode a reindeer carousel in a mall over Christmas and when we got off he waved to his reindeer and said that. Then he repeated it in a very forlorn tone the entire drive back to our hotel. he will occasionally say it now, but unfortunately he says the whole thing when saying bye bye to people at times. It leads to a lot of looks from fatties.

  • Oh my word.  I am dying!  And I love that he says in mournfully.

Sorry about the concussion, dude.  That's lousy.  And the crappy thing is, it's frowned upon to clock him back.  My natural reaction upon being injured is to retaliate.  If I spawn, I'd have to curb that.  In the meantime, I will go about my merry way beating up inanimate objects that my clumsy ass runs into.

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

  • I was too distracted by the stars and the tears streaming from my eye to give him 5 across the eye (old RE joke)
