Not really a sex question

I'm on AF. Yesterday, I started having some itching and burning sensations in my vagina. I took a shower and cleaned very well, but I still have this itching/burning pain. Is this a yeast infection? Do I need to go to the doctor or can I just take some over the counter type of drug?

  • It sounds like a yeast infection but you should go to your doctor to find out for sure. They can give you a prescription for a single fluconazole pill. The pill works waaaay better than the otc, messy creams, but go make sure that you actually have a yeast infection since it sounds like you have never had one before.
  • The other possibility is a UTI (urinary tract infection) they hurt like and SOB. For this you do need a prescription. Go to a doctor either way, just to be sure.

  • Yep definitely go see your doctor- it could be a couple different things, and they all have different types of treatments so it's important to get a correct diagnosis. Good luck, I hope it doesn't last much longer! I have a killer yeast infection typically once every couple years it seems, and I'm just not myself when dealing with it. Hang in there! See the doc!

  • When I have a yeast infection, it doesn't really burn, it's just very itchy! But UTIs burn, so that is my guess. If your discharge is, well, yeasty, it's probably a yeast infection.

  • You could probably be irritated from washing with a scented soap...

If you knew better, you'd do better.
  • you should try that over the counter test kit i've seen on commercials, it tests you to see if you have a yeast infection, I'm not sure what its called but you can get it over the counter in probably most stores. Then you can at least know if you have a yeast infection or if you should go to the doctor if it's not that.
