NCR: Odd ? re: hysterectomy

Ok, so DH's boss' wife (it's a very, very small company, so we are fairly close with them) had a hysterectomy Friday and is coming home from the hospital today. I wanted to take them some meals, but from what it sounds like her surgery was worse than most and had to "rearrange" some things as well (Dh's words :S) and that she isn't holding much food down. What kinds of meals should I make to take to them? I am thinking chicken noodle soup (or chicken and noodles over mashed potatoes?), but other than that, I'm coming up with things that I think would be too acidic (like baked ziti, stuffed taco pasta shells...). I think part of me is trying to burn through that 1/4 beef we need to eat before February when we get another 1/2. :S Any suggestions that involve beef? lol

  • Sorry to hear she is having a rough go at it.  You could always make a couple of soups for her and some "regular" meals for him. I would package them in smaller portions.

  • I agree with JIL. I know with my surgeries I had (not as bad as what she had), I rather eat soups for a while but DH had to have something else.

  • My BFF had a hysterectomy last year. Stick to soups, fresh fruit, and yogurt. :( I hope she feels better soon.

  • Tatertot casserole. It's fairly bland.

    1lb hamburger
1can cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup
1/2 can (use the soup can) milk
    Shredded cheese (I use cheddar)
    Frozen tater tots

    *Preheat oven to 375
    *Brown 1lb of hamburger, drain
    *Pour into casserole dish
*Sprinkle cheese over meat (this can be skipped)
    *Layer in tater tots
*Combine soup and milk and pour over  everything
    *Sprinkle on cheese
*Bake at 375 for one hour or until tater tots are cooked through.
